In Round 1, the Big East was an impressive 7-1, and the Big 12 was a perfect 8-0. In Round 2, there are five head-to-head match-ups.

UConn vs Texas
Rutgers vs Iowa State
Notre Dame vs OU
Louisville vs Kansas State
Pitt vs Baylor

Thoughts? UConn and Rutgers are probably locks, but the other three could go either way.

Some people have said the B12 is overrated, but you can't argue with 8-0. Yeah, only two of the eight were against major conference opponents (if the B10 is a major this year), but that's two more wins than the BEast had against majors in round one.

The BE was 6-2, not 7-1. DePaul and Syracuse both lost. The ACC was 5-1. Slac-10 ws 3-0 and SEC 4-1.

A10 1-2, B10 1-3, CUSA 1-1, MWC 0-3.

I always think the real measure is not wins and losses, but wins and losses compared to the seeding.

For instance, if seeding held, the Big East would have been 7-1, but Syracuse lost to a lower seed.

Using that measuring stick, here's how the majors are faring:

ACC +1 (FSU over Ohio State)
Big XII - 0 (same as expected)
Pac 10 - 0 (same as expected)
SEC - 0 (same as expected)
Big Ten - 0 (Ohio State loss to FSU plus Purdue win over Utah)
Big East -1 (Syracuse loss to Hartford)

Sitting in the Comcast Center parking lot (where I'll be for a while), assuming the UNC lead held and doing this from memory (so please excuse errors and typos):

BEast +1 (Syr loss, Pitt, ND wins)
Big XII -2 (Bay, OK, losses)
A10 +1 (GWU win)
Pac 10 -1 (Cal loss)
ACC even (FSU win, UVA loss)
Big 10 even (same as before)
SEC even (same as before)

Edited to correct for my faulty memory about the Louisville and K State seeds.

Louisville was the #4 and Kansas State the #5, so that's not a bad one for the B12 or a good one for the BEast.

To be fair, the Big East has three more teams... that gives them an advantage.

I covered the Big 12 for Full Court Press. It was a conference of parity more than greatness. Given that only 2 schools made the Sweet 16, one can say the conference was a bit over-rated when it advertised itself as "best." Above average and entertaining might be more accurate.

Congratulations to the Big East for putting 5 teams in the Sweet 16!

I've lived and worked in Big 12 territory for 12 years now -- and grew up there, too -- so I usually feel pretty plugged in on the Jumbo Dozen. Let's put it this way: I have absolutely no excuse not to be plugged in. And I can honestly say -- not trying to sound like some know-it-all -- that I'm not surprised at what has happened.

Big 12 is the most competitive from top to bottom but they only have one really competitive team for the Final Four.....Texas A&M. And they are not good enough to win it all, even if the officials call it in their favor.

I love how the UConn players were watching the Notre Dame game and cheering when they won. I like seeing teams cheer for schools in their own conference!!
