Anyone else think that if #13 Montana gets their offense going that they could possibly upset #4 Vanderbilt??? I'm looking at this match-up as possibly the biggest 1st round upset.

I actually have that as one of my upsets.

I'm also thinking Chattanooga has a chance against K-State.

I'm picking Montana over Vandy. I've seen them play.... Shocked

Chattanooga over K-State, absolutely, since K-State's best player is gone.

I haven't seen Montana: their schedule didn't inspire me when I looked at it a while back. Can they really beat a pretty good SEC team?

Temple, New Mexico, Hartford, and especially Wyoming struck me as better bets to advance.

Keep in an eye on Illinois State. They are playing close to home and are a dangerous team.

That would be really amazing! One, maybe two but all three?

Not as amazing as you might think. Over the last ten tournaments, 27 teams seeded #11 or lower have won first round games, an average of 2.7 per year. At least one #11 or lower has won a first round game every year since the field expanded to 64 teams and every year except 1990 with the field at 48 teams. The record is five, set in 1998 when Youngstown State, Colorado State, UCSB, Virginia Tech, and Harvard all did the deed.

I've seen Vandy and if they are clicking they will survive through Maryland, and will give MD a run for their money.

I picked my #13 UCSB Gauchos to beat #4 Virginia and ODU.

Hey, what's the fun of picking if you pick your own team to lose in the first round Wink

If Mercer made it in, I would have at least one bracket with them winning it all.

I picked San Diego. Unfortunately, it wasn't in the men's bracket. Mad

Does IL State have someone to go against the Paris twins? I will be shocked if ILL State wins in spite of OK woes at B12.

I know Vandy & they have improved over the season. They aren't as good offensively as most recent years but better defensively. They are young though. I hear Montana has a good lead guard.

I went with Chat vs KState on the pick sheet but without enthusiasm. I saw Chat once early against TN when they lost but were not crushed. I know KState well and guess they will try to go inside more without Dietz.

They have a couple.

With Oklahoma, you can somewhat afford to let the Paris twins get theirs(I can't remember the last time both twins put up 30 each). It's the rest of the team that is a big question mark. Illinois State has some GOOD shooters, big shooters at that. Keep in mind, the Sooners almost lost to Iowa State. As Sherri Coale said, the team most similar to Illinois State is Iowa State. The biggest, and really only difference, is that Illinois State has more athletic guards and a deeper bench. Both of those factors only help Illinois State against the Sooners.

Plus, it doesn't help that Illinois State best player and best scorer, Kristi Cirone, will be guarded by Jenna Plumley.

Did Ole Miss last year?

Vandy certainly avoided the fate some of you were forecasting for them.

To my total surprise, Florida State won the biggest upset prize for Saturday as a #11 beating a #6. I regularly watch FSU play in Tallahassee and could not see them winning against Ohio State as the Noles finished the season losing to Clemson and struggled in the ACC Tournament to beat Wake. This was by far FSU's best win of the season. Pre-season, I thought FSU would be top 20 but they lost Miller (6-3 C) to grades and then a few key players had to sit out for involvement with the internet cheating scandel that rocked the football team this fall. They never really got it together until this OSU upset.

Last year OSU was upset by Marist. This makes two years in a row that OSU goes out in first round.

Ole Miss was an excellent defensive team last year. They weren't like IL State. Also, Ashley Paris is better this year.

Vandy is a better team than most folks, in particular Lady Vols fans, are willing to admit. They're well-coached and make up for a lack of athleticism with a better overall knowledge of the game than their opponents (this includes knowing when to shoot/pass and how to play position defense).

I'm not surprised about Vandy. They've looked really good lately.

However, Ohio State is very overrated.

According to Balcomb, this is Vandy's best defensive team in her years there. After watching them live at the SEC Tournament, I agreed with what she said. They have only one senior and not much size outside her (Sherwood) but are tougher.

Agreed, Ohio State was disappointing this year.

Vandy was so much faster on both offense and defense than Montana. And they were lights out from the outside. Surprised
