For those of us following mediocre programs, this is the link for you! Wink

http://www.womensnit.com/

Looks like some teams already got "automatic bids." I'm unsure of how one gets an automatic bid, though.

The WNIT awards an automatic berth to each of the nation's 31 conferences. The spot goes to the team that finishes the highest in the regular-season conference standings that does not advance to the NCAA Tournament.

From the list of automatic bids, it's probably the teams that are pretty sure will not get an at-large bid. Some of the names make sense.

Well now I have it confirmed that Marquette is in the WNIT. Like I expected, everyone who finished above MU in the BE is going dancing so MU gets the automatic WNIT berth. NCAA's are the preference of course but the WNIT is better than no postseason. Now I wait for hours to find out when/where they play.

At least one other state team will be in the WNIT with UW-Green Bay getting the automatic berth for the Horizon and Wisconsin might get an at-large bid.

I wonder who'll go for the Pac-10. UCLA has no coach and USC usually rejects a bid. Will Washington go? I'm wondering.

It's disappointing enough when 'my team' doesn't make the NCAA's (even though I knew they weren't going dancing this year) but the worst is the waiting for the WNIT bracket to be announced - I'm probably still looking at almost 2 hours until they announce the whole bracket - ugh! I just want to know who/when/where Marquette will be playing.

I'm about to check the websites of teams I know are in or expect to be in to try to find individual matchups - a few of those usually show up before the whole bracket does. I just hope it really is announced by 11p central.

I guess so. UCLA and USC would have been the only two teams eligible for the at-large (overall .500 record) and I would guess they both declined. Come to think of it if one declines (not sure who won finished higher in the conference), if they ask the other one when it comes to the automatic berths.

And we have a bracket: The Pairings

Among the teams with first round byes and of interest to Rebkellians are Marquette, St. John's and Illinois

The bracket you've posted shows up as blank for me.

Apparently some got it earlier than others as mine just kept showing up blank and others on the MU board were seeing the pairings while mine was blank - oh well.

I was excited at first when I saw MU's bye but then realized we aren't guaranteed a home game Sad. I really wanted them to host at least one home game. As I recall, South Dakota State's attendance is good too. I see MU and Illinois could meet up if both win their first games - uh oh Smile.

That happened to me too as others were seeing the bracket and it was blank for awhile for me - I finally clicked on it and the teams showed up for me - not sure what's going on with it.

Hmm. I think our draw is a bit tough, starting with our first game, but hey, we're at home!

Yeah. Man, after last weekend, I was hoping they'd put us in Conseco Fieldhouse. Wink

Oh, and if we do meet in the second round, may the best team named Illinois win.

Thanks... I read where UK put in a bid to host through the first four rounds. I guess they're willing to spend $$$ to host.

Thanks for letting me know. My bracket still is blank!

I'm not that old - I can read that small print Smile. I'm not even close to concerned about that game yet - I'm just a big Creighton fan right now. Looks like MU will have to goto South Dakota State but I think would host Creighton but I don't know what the chances of Creighton winning on Thursday are. Most of the bye teams get to play at home - why did we have to end up with a TBD???

I wonder if the Pac-10 teams aren't a little stupid to turn down a bid? If they won, it would be at least some pubilicty for the conference. They need to find some way to fight the east coast bias.
