BULLSHIT call, Toliver didn't even touch her! Come on MD, remember this was the team that fell apart last time you played, buckle down and you can do it again.

Maryland has ran out of gas! Shocked
Too many mental mistakes in the last minutes of this game.

Congrats to Duke. They really got up and down in transition today. Cheek had a great game: rebounds, key shots put backs. wanisha had a great game too.

JOY CHEEK IS MY HOMEGIRL!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy She and Nish carried the Blue Devils in this game. I'm glad the team has finally decided to rally around the senior.

Seriously, I didn't see that one coming. Yes, I thought Maryland would win easily. Yes, I thought Duke would lay an egg after last night's struggle with FSU. And yes, I'm glad that I was dead wrong. Looks like Duke and UNC continue to have a stranglehold on the ACC Tournament.

A win over UNC tomorrow would be nice, but that ain't happening. Hopefully K's team can beat up on the Holes tonight.

Congrats Duke and to the Blue Devil fans.

Joy Cheek and Wanisha Smith were both incredible!

Sidenote. I don't think I've ever seen Toliver play as athletic as she did today.

The Duke players have taken ownership of their team. Finally!

Duke exploited the Md weakness against dribble penetration all game long. This is team that I love. Taking it right at 'em.

Go Devils! You can take it to the Heels tomorrow!!!

SIGNATURE WIN!

I've talked about it a couple times this year, and I've really felt like that is the thing that would be able to change the tide of emotion and momentum for the Blue Devils.

That Duke showed for forty minutes that not only they could buy into McCallie's defensive mindset, but also execute a physical and disruptive game plan shows that perhaps this squad has turned found what it takes to win games.

So many times this season, I've seen Duke make a nice rally in a loss. One that brings them close or even tied with their opponent. They have shown their ability to get strings of stops to make a run. But the rally always falls short. When they would get their possession to try to take the lead, they would make a mistake, usually a turnover. Tonight, they cut out, for the majority, the stupid passes (that's you Abby Waner and Jasmine Thomas) and I think Joy Cheek and Carrem Gay showed what a little intensity on the offensive glass can do.

Most importantly, Wanisha Smith stepped up and said "side-kick no longer." Smith wanted the ball in her hands and she delivered. If Duke has any hope, tomorrow has to be a repeat performance.

Joy Cheek has the "it" factor. She is a battler in a way that few in the college game are battlers. She was great defensively and really brought it on offense today. I loved it. I also hope that this is an indication that we don't need to try to rely so much on the soft shoulders of Chante Black. Allow her to be more of a role player, not the go-to scorer. It will come more naturally to her and allow her to play with more ease.

Great win for Duke tonight, no doubt about it. However, it does not feel like a buy-in as it does like a buy-out, as in the players decided to own the team. Tonight was Duke basketball. Players were setting screens for each other all over the court, something noticeably absent from the offense most of the season. And these players KNOW how to use screens!!

Regarding Chante: the "pound it to Chante" works against SOME teams. Last night Chante was high scorer. Of course it took Abby finding her game to pull out the win. Against Maryland, I think two miserable losses against this team was enough to learn to throw out that offense and try something different...such as DUKE basketbal, something these players already know how to play.

And surprise, surprise, suddenly these same players who looked slow, befuddled and untalented in the tractor offense, now look like tough as nails, skilled competitors.

So is this how McCallie "coaches for March"??? Make the players look totally stupid through the regular season and suddenly in the post season, let them play with a REAL offense? Sheesh.

Well on to the Championship Game!!

Cometfan97: your tagline is a good theme for the Duke players this season. One little exception, they DO remember all the horrid things this coach has said to them all season long. That's the problem.

When these players get into the heat of the game (and forget how the coach makes them feel) and are allowed to play the best way they know how to play (leave the tractor on the farm), they look like the awesome players they are.
