Georgia Tech senior Jill Ingram tied an NCAA Division I single-game record by coming up with 14 steals in the Yellow Jackets' 76-43 Senior Night win over Virginia Tech on Friday in Atlanta. She's the seventh player to swipe 14 in a game since steals became an official NCAA statistic in 1988-89:

VaTechs starting Pg was out with the flu...tough break...
but the second half of that game a total and utter disaster for VT. They had no idea how to beat GT's fullcourt press. Seemed like every inbounds pass was an adventure.
Its amazing how an ACC school can be that inept at press break, even with the starting Pg out.

Saw the game. Haskins had the flu and couldn't play, but that wasn't the sole reason why Virginia Tech turned the ball over 37 times.
To be honest, they quit. Georgia Tech was super-amped because it was their Senior Night, and Virginia Tech simply couldn't sustain the same level of intensity they had in the first half (where they had a one-point lead until the final seconds of the first half. With Barbour returning, they went back to standing around and hoping that she could deliver the big shots for them. When she couldn't, they simply said, "fuck it" and stopped playing.
If ever there was a case for Beth Dunkenberger to be fired, last night served as a prime example of her ineptitude. How can you allow your team to continue making the same mistakes without making an adjustment? Don't they teach players how to run the baseline after made baskets and NOT run the baseline during spot throw-ins?
I guess what I'm saying in a roundabout way is that I wasn't the least bit impressed with Ingram's defensive performance. Most of those "steals" were gifts courtesy of the VPI ballhandlers. It's as though they simply laid the ball in her hands at least 10 of those 14 times. Frankly, I was more impressed with her passing.

That tends to happen when the other team has no interest in guarding you...
