Barring an absolute choke job by UNC, Erlana Larkins pretty much sealed the deal this weekend. Thoughts?

Right now Larkins does seem like the logical choice but I suspect the race will still be very close.

I'm on the Toliver train.

I think she's the best, most explosive player in the league with regards to her ability to take over games.

Good to see ya back, Iluvacc!

Oh, that's true!

Hmm. Then maybe I should get on the Heather Claytor train. It goes a little slow, but it always seems to start on time. Wink

Toliver (and possibly Brittany Cook of VPI) is probably the best offensive player in the league and can be fun to watch. As for ACC POY, she's fighting a losing battle. She's going against two seniors. One of them is her teammate (Langhorne), and she's the leading scorer in the ACC in conference play. Langhorne's also the ACC Preseason POY and just set the school records for points, rebounds, and field goals made, so that helps her case. The other senior plays on an undefeated team and manages to get double-doubles with a broken hand. The media just eats up Larkins' broken hand story--and you have to remember that most of the voters for ACC awards are from North Carolina. That's why I think Super Sized will win as long as UNC stays undefeated. In fact, UNC would have to lose two games for Toliver or Langhorne to have a shot at POY.

Good to see you again, Iluvacc.

I'll let Bball chime in with her thoughts on Claytor. LOL

Claytor is the best kept secret in the ACC. One of these days, she's bound to hit a three-pointer. Wink

Seriously, WTF is up with her these days? I don't think I've seen her hit a three since 2006. No wait...she did hit a three against Duke last week. Evil or Very Mad

Thanks for the welcome!

LOL @ SUPER SIZED. I so missed your nicknames. Seriously, Larkins needs to stay away from Noelle Quinn's nutritionist.

My picks for the first team would be

Larkins
Toliver
Langhorne
Whittington
Wright.

That is actually a pretty good first five that I would take against any other conference.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Just think of how her numbers would be if she were in shape! Shocked

Don't get me wrong. I'm not the biggest Larkins fan out there. Jumbo Erl is a big baby who whines incessantly on the court. That shit irks me to no end. But there's really nothing anyone else can do at this point to knock Larkins off her perch.

That's a good team--a little too frontcourt-heavy, though. Kinda depends on whether or not you see Wright as a two or three. I might've put Janie Mitchell up there prior to Monday's bomb of a game against BC, but politics dictate that Whittington be on the first team at all costs.

The Big East team is pretty good:

Prince
Zellous
Moore
McCoughtry
Charles

The Big East team is a 10-member team. If it was 5 however, I would NEVER put Zeallous on there ahead or Montgomery. It would be tough to put 3 players from one team on 1st team all conference, but UCONN has to have all 3 players on there.

I kinda like Larkins. I guess TV doesn't give me the privilege of her whining, but I think she's a bit more soft spoken than Langhorne + Harper who seem to blow their collective wads if they make a layup.

It's all the same to me at the end of the day. Larkins does the "And 1" chant a bit too much for my liking. Plus, the constant whining and bickering to the refs is just unnecessary.

Langhorne and Harper are Philly kids, and their little swagger does rub folks the wrong way. There's no need to celebrate wildly after a made lay-up. Dunk or hit a few half-court shots first and then let the gyrations begin.

Speaking of politics, there is no way Renee Montgomery doesn't get included in the All Big East team. I've read the oft-used "Big Three" moniker for that trio at UConn.

Joy Cheek was doing that the other day against Maryland. Never heard her do that before.

Of course, the queen of the "and one" chant after scoring was Nikita Bell...even when unguarded in the open court.

Wait, Nikita Bell? Doesn't "And 1" mean you actually have to make the layup?

IMO, any ACC POY discussion has to include Laura Harper as well.

Nikita Bell...perhaps the biggest waste of talent Columbus, GA has ever produced. What an a-hole. Rolling Eyes I guess she became an ordinary player once people on the college level figured out that she could only go left. Wink

Remember when Hatchell, in the ACC Media Day conference before the season started, predicted that Bell would be as good as or better than Alana Beard?

Nice call, Syl.

Oh come on, Cam! Bell put up Beard-like numbers...when she was left unguarded on her Nerf hoops set. Wink

And her lack of a right hand was still evident. Wink

Those teams were so great...to make fun of. You had:

- Nikita Bell, the overrated one.
- Candace Sutton, the softer-than-Downey post player
- Leah Metcalf, whose conduct made Thugbika and Elaine Powell blush
- Coretta Brown, the guard who was trying to hold shit together with the craziness around her
- Nikki Teasley...There is no I in team, but there are two Is in Nikki.

Good times. Smile

Cam, don't stop there!

You also had Jennifer Thomas, the highly rated forward out of Detroit Country Day who did jack sh*t under Syl except for bobble basic post entry passes and sometimes score from the free throw line.

And let us not forget that player from South Carolina who stole the shoes from her teammate. Classy.
