"It has been hard for Carla to be so far away from her family. This transfer provides an opportunity for Carla and her family to reconnect, and we wish her the best," stated Goestenkors, hired this past April to replace Jody Conradt who retired after 31 years at the helm of the Longhorns basketball program.

"I respect her decision and wish her well both personally and athletically," Goestenkors continued. "While we're sorry to lose an individual of Carla's caliber and will miss her contributions, I understand that young student-athletes must do what they believe is in their best interest. We're focused on moving ahead with our rebuilding process, and I look forward to working with the players who are committed to our University of Texas program."

Oh, she's a PG?

Okay, New Yorkers, I'm taking bets on the date of the first hair-pulling fight between her and Sky Lindsay now.

Sky doesn't fancy herself a point guard.

...unless she is trying a Ricky Davis assist to herself.

Who would've been better had she given herself time to work with Gail. Now she's going to be in college for what seems like an eternity. Shocked

I'm not sure she is physically capable of playing Gail-ball.

I don't get how this will help her be closer to her family?

She's from Puerto Rico and did her last two years of HS in Houston. How does NY figure into all of this?

I don't get this transfer. She would have probably been the starting PG at Texas under one of the best coaches in the game. Now she has to sit out ANOTHER year to go to St. John's which I don't think is quite known for basketball glory.

Nonetheless, I wish her all the best! She was one of my favorites!

You're right-on target partner with your reasoning- they were a little disingenuous in their statement to the public, in wanting to not publicize Cortijo's unfortunate inabilities. Her knee and physicality are not suited nor would it hold up under the demanding rigors of Gail-ball.

However, she will be a good PG for a team like St. Johns that is not so physically demanding. She sees the floor exceptionally and is a good passer. She's also a top academic student...............

Her family is moving to NYC (supposedly), and there is a more significant Puerto Rican presence in NYC (understatement of the year).

True, but life isn't all about basketball.

What, exactly, is "Gail-ball"?

Interesting to see how Gail make-shifts a bandage @PG. Most likely Erika Ararian and Brittany Raven (who has many attributes similar to S. Swoops at this stage) will share the out-of-position honors again. Would be very very surprised to see Texas crack into the Top 25 this year....... Crying or Very sad

Yeah, I miss TJ and hope she starts getting more Liberty playing time...........

Go Liberty!!
