Guenther said in a statement a coach will be hired in three weeks. According to a source close to Sky assistant Stephanie White, the former National Player of the Year at Purdue will be among the applicants.

Former Boilers need not apply.

Why not? I think Steph would be a good candidate... I have others in mind, but she's definitely worth a look.

Laughing She barely went to the Sky and already she's thinking of moving on to Illinois. I guess I can't blame her with all the job ops out there but damn, it would be hard to see her at U of I. YUCK!!

That's par for the course for Miss White. She spent one year as an assistant at Kansas State. Is that near a record for longevity for her?

Stephanie White would be clueless on recruiting in my state. I want someone who knows the territory, knows the quality of players and knows Illinois.

Again, no former Boilers need apply--unless you're an Illinois native.

The only "former" Boiler I want at Illinois is Bruce Weber (an Illinois native)--and Purdue wasn't smart enough to offer him the head coaching job when Keady was in his decline---Boilers "lost" him, we got him, and we want to keep him.

Let me add her job hopping is a detriment. She needs to park her butt at one job for more than two seasons and earn some loyalty. I hear the griping and I know it is justified.

Overton left UMKC in a lurch in the middle of the season for the Sky, so it won't be unprecidented.

IMHO, this point is moot anyway because I feel Marsha Frese has the job.

I think I agree that she's not quite ready; but I still am of the opinion that ultimately she's too good to be part of IL. Yuck, indeed.

What about Shannon Perry? An exciting, young, up-and-coming assistant coach...worked at Iow, USC and Duke (total of eight years).

Oh, so you advocate "offering head coaching jobs" when the coach isn't set to retire? WTF are you smoking?

Illinois should BE so lucky.

Don't act so clueless---everyone knows Keady stayed beyond his time. Bruce was there on the sidelines with him for years. They could have implemented the same "you be assistant and then we'll move you up" plan for him as they did later on for Painter (who learned at Bruce's side).

Talk to some of the older Purdue faithful sometime--many of them I've spoken to regret losing Bruce Weber and the fact that Keady stayed too long.

I've been a Purdue fan for over 30 years but thanks for playing.

You didn't state that in your previous post, you said he was "in decline". Don't post so idiotically.

I USED to be sorry about losing Weber but seeing as how Purdue went from 7 wins last year to a 7 seed in the NCAA tournament and has a top 5 recruiting class in next year, Painter's just fine by me, thanks.

She definitely IS worth a look, O][K. Miata just doesn't know whether to scratch her watch or wind her butt on this issue. Nothing new.

ILUVBIGTEN: You are right that Purdue had an excellent year last season. He is a very good coach who many predict will bring Purdue back to greatness.

What is the purpose of launching an attack at me? FYI--I'm not some passive wimp so scratch your own butt for a change. Nothing about the level of animosity from some of you folks is new either....

"You're still a tiger Roger...."

Wow, more friendly people here who love to engage in personal attacks. All that's lacking is the profanity utilized by the usual crowd of Boiler fans. Hmmm....such a group of nice people who are posters on this site....

Really says something about character.....

Have a nice day. Unlike you I'd rather discuss basketball without engaging in the usual round of nastiness some of you folks seem to be so fond of.

Oh now, you've slung it with the best of 'em. Don't discount yourself so readily. Wink
