They mentioned it a couple of times this morning. The pastor of the church CVS attends was the mediator for their meeting with Imus. He said that there were tears, that these young women were receiving hate mail and threats. This is something that will likely continue to be brought up and discussed even into next season and maybe for the remaining time that any player attached to this wears a Rutgers uniform.

I don't care what anyone has to say, Jason Whitlock and the likes, whoever says that these young women aren't "scarred" by this can kiss my ass.

and to automatically label the idiots doing this as "Imus fans" is not fair and correct either.

I would say the "Imus Fans" are the ones that have the radiothon over $2.5 million this morning, not the ones threatening RU.

Maybe not just players wearing a Rutgers uniform.

The following article examines the reactions of a group of young women involved in basketball in Western New York about the effect that Imus' words had on them:

Withstanding a racial rant.

Well if it gets high enough, we'll have to hit the 'undo' key and give the man a pass.

Frankly, I'm more impressed with Michael Jackson's humitarian gestures..

Blue, don't go there with me on this one. It won't excuse what he said. But don't try to undo the fact the man has raised over $40 million for kids with cancer and SIDS research.

It doesn't make him a saint, it doesn't give him a pass. It is a sign that some people respect the humanitarian side of the man.

I understand that Deidre Imus mentioned the hate mail going to the RU team on the show this morning (WFAN had her and Charles McCord do the show) and said that any hate mail should go to her husband.

I heard it; I didn't want to go there, but thanks for mentioning it. She also called the RU women "beautiful and courageous".

Sorry, DTS, but I find it interesting that we have to talk about the great humitarian side of this man when we didn't talk about the great humitarian side of, for example, Michael Jackson. I don't see Don Imus as a bad person. I condemn the behavior, not the person. But I've read seen enough scripts of the racist content of his show that the mention of Imus in the same sentence as 'great humanitarian' makes me throw up in my mouth.

Yes, it should.

Contributing to hate and ignorance with hateful, offensive racial stereotypes is Imus' stock-in-trade. Imus' panders to the worst in us and he does it to sell laughs - consequences be damned.

His wife gets it. Maybe Imus finally gets it.

Just looking at the tension and diviseness relating to the Imus discussions here provide a clue to what it is Don Imus has been selling.

I hit some entertainment site yesterday with a comment section
I was shocked to see the number of posts from white power NAZI's calling for harm to befall the RU women and CVIV for their part in ending the IMUS show.

I can't imagine what the Free Republic and the AnnThrax Coulter sites look like today. I haven't been able to bring myself to go there yet.

I did read where Coulter made some particularly nasty comment.

I guess I'm not so shocked given the depth of depravity that exists on the web.

Blue the humanitarian side is only being discussed because of the fact that CBS did what I consider one of the most tasteless things I've ever heard of in firing the man a week after what he said, right smack in the middle of the radiothon.

There is no reason whatsoever that they couldn't have waited until 10 am this morning to fire him. He could have finished the radiothon.

The threads discussing his humanitarian side only began with his termination during the radiothon. If I'm mistaken about that, I know my participation only began at that point.

I doubt that Imus' fans contributing to his charity are the same fans making threats.

Just as Imus does both good (his charity) and bad (his words) his fans can be both good and bad.

It also seems foolhardy to assume that all of the threats and hate mail would be coming from Imus fans. Unfortunately there are enough people out there that think that black people or women should stay in their place, and if they don't they should be punished. We don't like to admit those people are out there.

You and I think that way, DTS, but corporations seldom do. When my company fires you, your shit is packed and the guard escorts you to the gate. And even if they let you back into the office, forget about logging back onto the company's computer network.

Remember that Imus, in the hours before he was fired, did his morning show and was highly critical of everyone of MSNBC and others for not supporting him, including Harold Ford. It was like when Rene Portland commandeered the Bryce Jordan Center after the university announced its findings against her to say, 'This shit is wrong.'

From what I read, Imus' bosses had no choice but to fire him after his on-the-air performance on Thursday.

Good point Matty.

The threats are likely coming form a whole new kind of "fans" who just reared their ugly heads this week.

I would even go so far as to say that most of the threats are coming from people who wouldn't listen to Imus because he said nice things about Harold Ford, Jr.
