Why do I get the feeling some fans were more insulted, angered, hurt, traumatized, whatever, etc. than the players actually were?

Because chances are that not a single player on that roster knew a thing about Don Imus until this incident. The same can't be said for some of us. We remember the comments he's made in the past.

I'm sure if you would've asked the players how they felt about the comments right after they'd heard them, you'd see more of a reaction from them. Right now, they're being told, for the most part, what to say and how to say it.

CTh:"cvs on nbc nightly news: - "these young people are the most vulnerable in this world".

That has got to be one of the silliest statements I have read in a long time. People keep this up and there will be a backlash in favor of Imus.

Admit it, cth, you're hoping this all blows over before someone digs up this charming post from the tourney.

Oh. Oops. Dearie me.

For some reason, the following quote from my boss summarizes this thread really easily for me.

"Ignorant means you don't have the facts. Stupid means you have all the facts and don't care."

I don't know the context in which CVS said the "most vulnerable" phrase but if she was speaking about women of color in general, her statement was pretty accurate.

They had a news conference to respond to what happened. That's hardly putting themselves on a cross. You, on the other hand, are shitting your pants. It's you who needs to calm down. Rutgers is handling their own business just fine. If you don't like it, turn off the channel.

i never joked about yow's cancer nor have i declared how the RU player should feel.

i know exactly what i've said on both topics.

i think what we (you) have here is failure to comprehend.

LOL, never joked about Yows cancer...so was this your evil twin?

Possible -- or not, since a lot of them are local -- I don't know where WFAN is on the dial, but it's hard to avoid the name Imus.. Imus in the Morning, right?... in the NY area.

Even if they didn't, what difference does it make -- you can imagine the scene -- "hey, did you hear what this guy said on the radio about you guys? That you're nappy headed, tattooed ho's....

You're kiddin'

No -- and this guy is BIG -- broadcasts on radio AND TV -- to 30 million people...

and then bring in the parents, who more than likely know the man, and their reaction....

doubt if anyone can assume to know how they do or don't feel.

I would agree to a point. I don't think they are the MOST vulnerable group, but they are ONE of the most (poverty stricken children would be my first).

What I have been saying since this started, is that we need to look at it in context. Who was he attacking? Not another grown man, or even a grown female politician. He was attacking our youth, our women, our blacks, our athletes. How many protected groups do those members of the Rutgers team belong to? Why are we not protecting them?

Whoever thinks that what he said does not merit him losing his job, does it merit ANY consequence? If my child commits the same infraction over and over and over, saying sorry just doesn't cut it. Without consequences, it will never stop. And while a 2 week suspension is a consequence, it is a small one and just doesn't seem to "fit the crime". He has a history of this type of remark and this was NOT just a random slip of the tongue.

cthskzfn,

I find it incredibly ironic that you and LTF are wanting all of the Imus/Rugters discussion to cease, and yet both of you are continually making new threads dedicated to it. It truly feels like you are doing so in some feeble attempt to stir up ad-hominem debate and cause problems and hate to fly across this board. If you'd really like it to stop, then I'd start by taking your own advice.

Ok, so now I think it won't be over until they have dinner with Dubya. Or Obama. Or they are made into a South Park cartoon. The sky is the limit.
