it's time someone came to the defense of hos.
i will not stand idly by while these women are used as a term of denigration.
i'm not joking.
i believe prostitution should be sanctioned and regulated by the state.

Sanctioned?
De-criminalized, perhaps.

Am I the only one in this thread who would *love* to see the reaction if Imus had called the Huskies what he called the Scarlet Knights?

Funny -- I was wondering what would have happened if he'd said this about the Vols...
The WBCA has issued a statement -- at the top of their website: http://wbca.org/
WBCA's Response to Imus Comments
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association believes that bigotry under any circumstance is appalling. Student-athletes should not suffer any such public indignity. The WBCA stands with the Rutgers administration, coaching staff and student-athletes in protection from these despicable comments.
Dunno when it went up. I wonder if other coaches will weigh in on the subject...

I'm particularly interested in Pat Summitt's comments. Her team was also mentioned by Imus, albeit in a less denigrating manner.

Imus probably should be thanking his lucky stars he didn't say this about Pat or Geno - he'd probably be getting death threats.
As for other coaches, I was talking with a friend today about this and it occurred to me that Pat might be better off just not saying anything, although it also occurs to me that she might well be in touch with Stringer and RU PR team, since everything seems to be very well coordinated. Tonight, for instance, it appears that the team is meeting with the Governor, which is a natural for him since he was at the regional final and the national semifinal games, and showed up for their on-campus celebration.

Personally, I would rather hear what Geno would say about Imus had Imus called his players "nappy'headed hos."

It might have been more amusing, but I think that the Rutgers handled the situation quite well.
The meeting with the Gov is a classy touch, especially since Corzine was at some of the games.

I also think that prostitution should be legalized and taxed as any commercial transaction is subject to taxation.
And curiously, Imus seems to have doen Rutgers a favor. It, not Tn, is getting all of the attention. Imus looks like the jerk he is and the Rutger's ladies are looking like angels. Bottom line, Rutgers is getting far better press now than any other team that lost an NC (or won one, two, three, etc) ever got |

The irony has not escaped me. It doesn't hurt that all of the NYC TV stations already know the way to New Brunswick and Piscataway after the NCAA run.
I'm not sure whether this helps recruiting or hurts it, though. It's a reminder that the team is in the biggest media market in the country, but also a reminder that sometimes bad things can happen when you're in the biggest media market in the country. I do know that, if I were a parent of potential recruit, I'd look at how protective the university has been of the players and be very happy to see that.
