Preview: (1) Tennessee vs. (13) Marist

Quote:
This is the first trip to the round of 16 for 13th-seeded Marist (29-5), which lost in the first round of the tournament in 2004 and 2006. The Red Foxes' surprise showing has earned the respect of one of the NCAA's most decorated women's coaches.

"Coach (Brian) Giorgis has done a great job of preparing them," said Tennessee's Pat Summitt, who is taking the Lady Vols to their 26th consecutive round of 16 appearance. "Their composure, I'm so impressed wit that. ... They kept their focus and played together. Certainly to be a 13 seed and be in the Sweet 16 speaks in a tremendous way for what this team not only has done but can do."

Oh dear... I hope this isn't a blowout. Looks like Marist plans for CP weren't in van, on the bright side for them.

You see how they stripped Parker, so they sure aren't intimidated by her.

Marist's coach needs to lay off the doughnuts.

Even if it is a blowout, how can Marist not be proud of themselves for the Sweet Sixteen? It certainly isn't like they're playing "Joe's College" today.

Absolutely agree, they're playing a great team and they've already done quite a job! Just in terms of enjoying this particular game, I'd like them to figure out a way to break the TN defense.

Edit to clarify: they've done quite a job to get where they are in the tournament, not in the game.

I don't think it's a matter of figuring it out. They just don't have the personnel to deal with the LVs.

When you're outmatched physically, you'd better figure out some tricks! I guess that's what I meant Laughing

Is it my imagination, or do announcers for women's games use the word "stripped" to describe a steal more often than men's games announcers?

Pigs! They're imagining those poor girls nekkid. Shocked Laughing

Ah, lucky us, not only do we get to watch the ugliness, we get to look forward to 3 people discussing the ugliness.

What I hate is when they use "penetration."

Parker-this, Parker-that, Parker-all-the-rest. Did you know that Parker can, and has, dunked? Tell me ESPN isn't shilling for Parker as POY.

Can't deny Parker is great. But if ESPN even approximates the same degree of suck-ass for a clearly better player, and an arguably as-capable player, when OU and Ole Miss play, I'll take it all back.

Dunking is still ridiculous, IMHO. I mean, why are people so freaking excited by it? Because the men have been doing it for years?

Poor Marist...I wanted them to at least make it a game..

Tenn is just too good, making a 13 seed look like a 13 seed.

and they're fouling the crap out of Marist..

It bothers me because let's be honest, Tenn should be able to Marist without getting those types of advantages...

Well, it looked for a second like Marist might chip their way back in. LVs now up 26, and this game is pretty much a historical fact.
