The Buffs went down 0 - 14 to begin the game, got the deficit down to one in the first half and then saw the Ducks go up by double digits. CU would work the deficit under double digits late in the game, but couldn't get the job done.

The Buffs started four perimeter players for the first time as they have two posts out with foot injuries. Of course junior post Jackie Mcfarland did start and once again recorded a double-double.

CU is now 5-5 on the season and travels to face South Dakota State next Wednesday.

Congrats to Oregon as they up their record to 6-1. No one thought that they, nor Oregon State (4-1) would be doing this well. The Pac-10 may have a chance of having a decent number of teams go into the post-season.

I'm sure it's nice n such if one likes Ducks, but please be realistic. Beating the assembalge they beat tonight by 10 points is no more impressive than if they had - sorry pilight* - defeated Mercer by two points..

*fwiw - I'm glad Mercer isn't on the ait's schedule.

There is good news, however, for CU.

http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=3910&SPID=258&DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=717963

"CU head coach Kathy McConnell-Miller said. “I just think it is a sign of youth, not really understanding the game as well as they need to."

See, it wasn't the Ducks at all, it is that curse CU has of eternal youth.

Course it helps if you don't start your senior post and don't give your experienced, proven sophomore post a single minute, or that your junior guard who started games last year and has a wealth of experience also didn't play a single minute -it does help validate the never-ending youth excuse.

And if you read the article, you'll understand that while starting the first half giving up a 12-0 run and starting the second half giving up a 10-2 run, the fact that this assemblage always goes down fighting is purty danged important.

It doesn't really matter if you finish the year with 24 losses. It's how you always fight while losing that truly mattters.

Also note that this is the time of the year for - I think it's the fans who decide this by voting on the official CU website - experimenting to see which player combinations work best.

"The slow starts aren’t anything other than trying to get a feel for each other on the floor,” McConnell-Miller said. “The different line ups we have had, the different match ups, a different style of play with particular players"

Some coaches - or so rumor has it - actually have a fairly good idea of what combos will work best by the end of the exhibition season.
