Pilight, I don't know what surprised me more...seeing Duke 12th instead of 6th or 7th...or the Donna Summer signature!

The computer doesn't think too highly of any of Duke's victims....um, opponents....and it's dragging their ranking down. Look for a jump up when they beat Vandy and Texas.

Had Penn State not tanked after losing to Duke, it would have helped.

I'd like to think CVS will turn them around, but it could be 01-02 all over again.

I could see them finishing at bad as 7th in the Big East, behind UConn, Louisville, DePaul, Marquette, Pitt, and South Florida.

Why would you drop Purdue 3 places for a 1 game loss to your #7 team? It makes absolutely no sense. Defend yourself! Very Happy

After I watched the game, I concluded that the Boilers deserved to be the #12 team (barring an upset loss to Gonzaga, which would have knocked the Old Gold and Black to the #20 range) after their performance against UConn. I also dropped Tennessee three spots (#2 to #5) after the Lady Vols' loss to roughly-equivalent North Carolina, while Texas A&M fell from #10 to #15 following the Aggies' defeat at the hands of unranked-but-solid Rice.

One policy I have is to never drop a team after an undefeated week, which meant Rutgers (idle) stayed at #17 even though I wouldn't have ranked the Scarlet Knights had this been the first poll I filled out this season. From this point on, no team moves into my Top 25 without having won at least two-thirds of its games. This means that Stanford, to pick a school totally at random, has to wait until the week of Christmas to become eligible, as the Cardinal (4-3) is idle until December 16.

Let's see how they fare againt DePaul, a team that has been anything but impressive compared to some other Big East teams (namely Marquette and sorta UConn), first. If they lose to DePaul, turn out the lights. If Rutgers finishes 6th or 7th in the Big East, they're going to the WNIT.

Starbird, is your poll based on computer wizardry or just plain old neurons?

I, for one, appreciate that ASU is ranked 11th in both of your polls, but is at 13th in the AP and Coach's poll.

I think 11 is the better ranking choice for ASU, but I'm wondering if there are any thoughts on why there is the disparity in ranking...?

That will be a tall task to win at DePaul - not saying it can't be done but DePaul has a great homecourt advantage.

Are you using a computer for this? That's crazy.

Anyways, I think Ohio State has no business being ahead of Tennessee.

I think when it comes to that middle range, 11-15, anywhere there is good. I think you have no reason to worry with the Lady Devils. They are if nothing consistent and have staying power it appears. They also don't suffer some of those weird losses that other Pac-10 teams suffer to opponents they should beat. Probably comes from the coach.

Not a bad list....with the exception of Arkansas. That 9-1 record is deceiving. They had a good game, relatively speaking, against North Carolina....but......the only team they've beaten with an RPI greater than 150 is Hawaii. I'm not convinced they've turned around that much since last year....we'll see. Maybe you know something I haven't seen yet.

I am a Purdue fan big time considering it's my school I graduated at.
But I don't agree with putting them in front of UConn, considering that UConn has already beaten us. How do you justify that?

It's not a zero-sum game. Just because one team beats another doesn't neccesarily mean they should be rated more highly.

I agree, but what makes you think that Purdue is actually better than UConn? Just curious.

They did pretty much hold a double digit lead over us for a long time.

Could it be because of their strength of schedule?

That still doesn't matter IMO. I am talking about the game between us and UConn. UConn out played us that game, so right now, I would put them a spot or two ahead of us.

If Katie G didn't have such a bad game, we might have won.
This is why I said that we are not much below them, maybe a spot or two at this moment.
