Parker dunks at around 10:50 in the first half followed by a blocked shot.

Tennessee leads 15-11.

With about 6:30 left in the first half, Tennessee increases lead 23 to 13.

Stanford looks very out of synch in their offense. Made some sloppy passes and Tennessee is playing tough defense.

You're watching it on TV, or the Webcast?

Webcast.

They have one announcer and he is really biased. Tennessee can do no wrong and Stanford according to him, is getting away with murder.

Score, 27-21, Tennessee.

Tennessee 35, Stanford 28 at halftime.

Parker hits a three and amazingly enough, Candice Wiggins does a desperation throw from 50 feet and makes it. Crazy!!!! Shocked

You're looking at a Vols webcast. Mickey Deerstone is the Vols radio guy, so of course he's biased--he's paid by Tenn. But then, all the school radio people are equally biased for their schools.

No, cuz I just logged out of my membership account, and tried to download it and it worked.

You have to type the 3 letters they show you next to the box.

I'm not used to seeing local sports casts so it's taking a bit of getting used to.

Final score Tennessee 77, Stanford 60.

Tennessee just outplayed Stanford with tough defense. I'm surprised that Stanford didn't do better. However Anosikie and Parker were playing wicked defense and Sidney Parker would score when it was needed.

I think Stanford misses Roslyn Gold-Onwude at the point as Tennessee puts tons of pressure on the point guard.

Jayne Appel had a breakout game scoring 23.

Brooke Smith only score 4 points.

Candace Parker scored 25.

The only upside I see is that Stanford can play a lot better than this. Tennessee played about as well as they can play. I don't think they have another level beyond this.

Maybe, but Hornbuckle didn't contribute much this game and the guards still had foul trouble with both having at least 2 at halftime. With that in mind, I think there is another level in which they can play up to.

I didn't watch the game, but is it because UT played so incredibly well that you don't think they have another level, or because the team is not as good as in some other years?

Pat's teams are legendary for digging down to the Earth's core to find more strength and improve further, even when it seems like they can't go any higher. I have faith in her and in the Vols.

And any Stanford loss is coo with me.

Well, you aren't going to win when three players come to play. They were Appel, Wiggins and Jillian Harmon (why isn't she starting??). Pierce, Newlin, Hones and Smith were invisible.

Looking at the boxscore, Tennessee CAN play better than that. Didn't seem to be anything special with the Vols play except for maybe a couple of players..

What it comes down is that Tennessee played great defense. They doubled Brooke Smith and Wiggins and kept Newlin out of the paint. Because of that, Jayne Appel was open but even Parker had a hard time guarding her in the low post. As her conditioning improves (she was visibly tired in the second half), defenses will have to focus more on her and therefore open things up for the rest of the Stanford squad.

Harmon is a much better guard than people give her credit for. The two other guards, Hones and Murphy are freshmen. By the end of the season, they will be giving most teams problems. Also, Gold-Onwude is expected back sometime in January.

One thing I've seen however, is that Tennessee is so athletic, that most teams will have a hard time keeping up with them. I would say maybe only Duke, Maryland and North Carolina and maybe Connecticut if they're better than last year, can keep up with their athleticism at this point.

It's going to be interesting to see how they match up against North Carolina. NC has been playing a much easier schedule so it should be interesting how they fare at this point in the season against a more battle-tested Lady Vols team.

I think against a lesser team, this is definitely true. But beyond Hornbuckle, I don't see anyone else contributing more than what was delivered today.

I'm very happy with Tennessee beating Stanford and thank goodness the college basketball season has arrived.
