When do the real games start, IOW, who has the earliest non-exhibition game.
UCSB only has one exhibition scheduled (I'm assuming the other allowed game is being used up through a scrimmage) on Saturday, with the first real game against powerhouse Portland State the following Friday (actually I'm very happy to see us start out against a little bit lower level opponent)... last year we started out with Michigan State and Louisville on the road and that wasn't so pretty... and this year we have more questions than last year, though we have some answers already too like ditching the three or four year experiment of motion offense that wasn't working for us.
Change is good...at least if last year wasn't
UCSB's schedule is typically (at least) tough. Especially considering we have a little thin roster this year. We have 14 on the roster, but that includes:
1) Lauren Pedersen, who can't play til next year (transfer rules)
2) Chisa Ononiwu, who can't play til mid-December or January or something (also transfer rules)
3) Kat Suderman, who may redshirt due to injury/surgery recovery or something.
So we're left with 11 players and a little thin/inexperienced in the post. To cover the 4 and 5 spots we have:
1) Jenna Green, Junior (6-4)
2) Jordan Franey, Freshman (6-0)
3) Jessica Goble, Freshman (6-3)
4) Ashley Hall, Freshman (6-0) (Walk-on)
We're a bit better at the 1-3 with all three starter being returners from last year, but still young:
1) LaShay Fears, Soph
2) Jessica Wilson, Junior
3) Whitney Warren, Soph
4) Sha'Rae Gibbons, Soph? (missed last year - personal reasons)
5) Jordan Franey, Freshman
6) Ariana Gnekow, Freshman
7) Kim Smith, Soph (Walk-on)
I guess the good news is we'll have everybody back in 07-08 + some extras in post players Suderman and Shantel Thomas (hopefully) plus recruits (07-08 roster looks real big assuming we keep everyone including the walkons)
With this thin lineup we start with Portland State, but then the remainder of the non-conference schedule gets tougher, here's all the OOC games for us:
Date Opponent / Event Location Time
11/10/06 vs. Portland State Santa Barbara, Calif. 2:00 p.m. PT
11/12/06 at UCLA Los Angeles, Calif. 2:00 p.m. PT
11/17/06 vs. Oregon Santa Barbara, Calif. 7:00 p.m. PT
11/24/06 vs. Louisville Santa Barbara, Calif. 7:00 p.m. PT
11/26/06 vs. North Carolina State Santa Barbara, Calif. 2:00 p.m. PT
12/02/06 at Maryland College Park, Md. 4:00 p.m. PT
12/04/06 at Richmond Richmond, Va. 4:00 p.m. PT
12/07/06 vs. Weber State Santa Barbara, Calif. 7:00 p.m. PT
12/09/06 vs. Loyola Marymount Santa Barbara, Calif. 3:00 p.m. PT
12/18/06 at Pepperdine Malibu, Calif. 7:00 p.m. PT
12/20/06 vs. Michigan State Santa Barbara, Calif. 7:00 p.m. PT
01/11/07 vs. Utah Valley State Santa Barbara, Calif. 7:00 p.m. PT
01/13/07 at UC Davis Davis, Calif. 7:00 p.m. PT
02/01/07 vs. Stanford Santa Barbara, Calif. 7:00 p.m. PT
02/03/07 vs. UC Davis Santa Barbara, Calif. 2:00 p.m. PT
That's 4 ranked teams and two receiving votes from the coaches poll (unless I missed one). Lot's of them are home games (10 home, 5 road), which should help
There are at least 4 games in there that should be easy victories and at least 4 are probably certain defeats unless the team is better than I hope. Should be fun to watch all of them though. Hopefully the different offense will start to bring us back.

As far as I know, the official competition starts with the Preseason (as opposed to postseason) WNIT. Four first-round games will be played Nov. 9, with the four other opening-round contests the next night. From this site:
