I've recently become a fan of USC. What their coach has done with that program is remarkable. They'll only go up from here.

Kentucky, yes, absolutely.

To be a real surprise this year USC would have to beat Stanford. Yeah, they'll be pretty good, but they've got so many players coming off season-ending injuries from last year... coach Trakh will have to make a lot of decisions very fast. Maybe Gemelos is all that and a bag of chips? (Anyone here see her in HS? Clay, maybe?)

Green Bay were seriously good two years ago-- almost beat Minnesota when Minnesota were good, and gave Maryland a serious challenge in, I believe, the round of 32. I believe the best post from that team has graduated, though (Tiffany Mohr, IIRC), and last year's UWGB didn't look any better than any other team that loses big to national powers in December, and then beats up on small-conference opponents in January and February. OTOH the collapse of much of the Big Ten gives Borseth a recruiting opportunity he might not have had two or four years ago: he can get players who would head for Wisconsin or Minnesota if those teams were good. (Borseth almost recruited McCarville when Minnesota were bad; Wisconsin-Madison didn't pursue her.)

Anyone else have sleeper picks? I liked Old Dominion for much of last year-- hey, they took the Tar Heels to overtime!-- and then they folded in the NCAAs, partly because they didn't have the size. What small-conference teams, this year, do?

Gemelos is redshirting this season.

Among other players...USC has three strong players that WON'T be playing this year. They'll finish worse than they did last year, IMO.

Lenoir will return, but Cameron didn't make much of last season. I think Dunham, Medlock and Hughes will make some noise this season, especially since Dunham will share pg duties with Hagiya.

They'll finish better in the conference if only because UCLA will take a dive.

So it's safe to say that USC will be a "team on the rise" again next season, hmm?

Lenoir - Out until mid-January w/ hip injury

Cameron - Pregnant, out for season

Gemelos - Knee, out for season

I HIGHLY doubt they'll be better than last season.

The Trojans only lost one player to graduation and that was the very erratic Sue Wicks look alike Gnekow. Lenoir had significant minutes so that makes a hole, but Cameron is a total one trick pony. We'll have to wait to see what Gemelos can do coming back from such a serious injury.

Along with the leadership of Kerr and the athleticism of Murphy, this looks to be a better year for USC than last.
