I've read that article two or three times and still can't find the word drinking in it... Wink

Heading:
Humphrey arrested for underage drinking

Body:
underage possession of alcohol

I used the heading in the message.

That's what I'm thinking. Not excusing what she did, but I think it's a fair assessment to say that most college students by the age of 20 have had a little taste of the spirits.

Honestly, why are some people surprised. It didn't say she wasted acting like an idiot either.

As a former 20-year old who drank beer... this means about zippo to me.

Now, I wish Tasha, as a premiere basketball player in the country, would know to be pretty damned discrete about this sort of thing.

Have her run some suicides and do some community service.

Next please.

I'm not surprised college students drink beer.

Im surprised that someone under such a big microscope would do this. Especially when it could tarnish their image.

I just don't understand how someone gets caught. I drank a lot (and I mean a lot) of beer while underage and was never close to getting caught. It isn't hard.

That is the only thing that I find surprising when I see one of these.

scholarship athletes are held to a different standard of behavior - not a question of fair or not, it just is... and, tho i've never seen what the caveats are attached to a scholly, behavior can be a reason for dismissal or suspension... IIRC, a Vandy player was arrested a couple of years ago for DWI and dumped by the program.

REL - do you mean Abi Ramsey? I think she was suspended for a few games but not dismissed.

DWI is a very different issue ... No one is hurt by a player putting back a few beers.

If student-athletes were worried about this tarnishing their image, they wouldn't post pictures and discuss such activity on myspace and the likes. They obviously don't think its a big deal and neither do their coaches or they would put a stop to the internet stuff. The "microscope" argument is way overblown, most of these athletes have social lives like all other college students -- it's part of being a "student-athlete".

As a GA fan I am on the fence on this one I am dissapointed but at the same time it's like ok but maybe a little punishment will teach her not to do this again because something else could happen next time.

Ordinarily, being Athens, I would predict PBR. Humphrey might be a Colt 45 fan, however.

Being 6'3 and/or to' up probably didn't help.

I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt though. Probably something simple like coming from a house party with an exposed bottle. I know the campus and city police were just waiting outside frat houses, campus parties and clubs to snatch up "beer hands" and the underaged at my school.

Say your goodbyes, walk out the door, forget to put the beer or cup of Goose on the sidewalk, walk in a large, semi-drunk, attention grabbing group migrating back to the dorms/apartments/next party and bump into officer so and so waiting to scoop up the careless...not that I've done this before on many a Thursday/Friday night mind you.
