A counterfactual conjecture, I know, but it could be interesting to guess about.

How long would Pat have stayed on if she hadn't gotten ill? Would she have been motivated to retire because of diminished recruiting or NC success, or the rise of Staley, or the arrival of Mulkey, or the distortions created by NIL and the portal? Or would she have wanted a legacy of more NC's and surely an unbeatable record of career wins?

She would have been 71 right now.

She would be about the same age as Geno and he's still going.

I think it's entirely possible, had she not gotten the early-onset dementia or some other illness. She was the same age as Geno and he's still coaching.

Pat was born in '52, Tara in '53, and Geno in '54, Muffet in '55. No reason to think that she'd have quit before now. However, I still like Muffet's (and now, Tara's) approach: let it go while you're still viable and healthy, and start living a less stressed, harried life.

Could Pat Summitt still be coaching? Yes for sure.

Would Pat Summitt still be coaching? Who knows? There's lots of factors that would go into that.

She'd still be coaching, unless she had found some equally exciting and challenging position in another arena. She was the most-driven woman on the planet...I can't see her just retiring and taking up knitting.
