The women's NCAA Tournament is having a big moment that has also been marred by missteps
I'm surprised there is no chatter here yet about the debacle with the court in Portland:

The biggest lapse was the two different 3-point lines on the floor in Portland. One side’s arc was about 9 inches short of regulation at its apex, a mistake by the contractor that makes the courts used throughout March Madness. |
Also mentioned: Utah's experience in Idaho after being forced to stay 30+ miles out, the referee getting pulled at halftime of the Chattanooga-NC State game, and the officials' miscommunication with Hidalgo regarding her nose piercing. Teams are apparently not a fan of the super regional format.
It's nice to see one article taking the NCAA to task for these issues. This has been a great tournament, and the players deserve better.

It was discussed a little here:

I wonder if the number of viewers for the UConn-Iowa game will put a spotlight and pressure on the need for better officiating (we would never see that call made in a men's game).

It should be seen in a men's game. This is one that the ref got right.
This whole notion of "let the players decide the game, not the refs" is a huge, stinking pile of BS.
Why should an illegal screen by Edwards be allowed to possibly decide the game?? If we're going to allow one team to not play by the rules, why play the game???

I'd be satisfied if the refs had called the last 5 seconds the same as they called the first 39'55" of the game.
If the refs would have been remiss if they didn't call the violation with :05 left, then it would only have been the 50th or so time in the game where they had been remiss.
