Just sad.

Wow. Just wow. Not fond of either team (we play in the same conference) but they aren't the ones JMU has had problems with. Ours have been with GA State who play like a bunch of thugs and GA Southern, who aren't much better.

I have less than fond memories of Southern Miss's physicality after a game where our entire starting lineup either got injured or exacerbated injuries against them. I don't think Lee-McNelis prioritizes impulse control in her recruiting.

I am less than fond of S. Miss myself (their coach reminds me of my 9th grade algebra teacher, about whom less said the better). However, my particular animus in the Sun Belt concerns GA State. My spousal unit commented that if the brawl had been between them and So. Miss, some GA State player would probably have whipped out a pair of brass knuckles. They beat up our JMU players pretty badly last week and showed a real lack of class leaving the floor.

So. Miss is also the school that Bret Favre gifted with the state welfare money he stole to build that ungodly gaudy arena.

One question, though---wasn't it an Ark. State player who shoved a S. Miss player into the bench that started the whole thing? Wasn't she charged for anything?

She was one of the players ejected and she's been suspended two games.

From the article:
Quote:
Southern Miss plays Arkansas State again on Feb. 24 in Jonesboro (2 p.m., ESPN+).

"It's gonna be heated," Southern Miss coach Joye Lee-McNelis said. "That concerns me. We've gotta be level-headed. We got to think we're here to play and to win, not to get back at anybody. We will have to help control the emotions."

What are they going to do, sedate them???

Jump ball situations can get chippy as both players try to hang onto the ball. Not sure what the rule currently is, but when the whistle blows both players should have to quickly let go and if they don't, get a tech or tossed.

The announcer talked about "ladies" that came out of the stands that were ejected from the arena but I didn't see what he was referring to.

One had pink sleeves, one a white shirt and jeans and the third one might have been the one that climbed over a couple of rows of chairs and then jumped over the railing (white shirt, dark pants. I'm guessing that they were mothers of the players, but I don't know. I don't think they were part of the fight, more to check on players I think,

Thanks, I see them now. Yeah, they probably just violated a "don't go on the court" rule if they were tossed. The woman that came over the railing appeared to know and be trying to comfort the assistant coach that was lying on her back.

These two teams play again on Saturday. I would not want to be a ref in that game. It's bound to get chippy at best, and horrible at worst.
