First of all so sorry for Tasha and all who knew her. It's heartbreaking.

Second: The number of young women diagnosed with advanced breast cancer is increasing at an alarming rate. GET THOSE MAMMOGRAMS. I can tell you that the discomfort of a mammogram doesn't even rate in the top 1,000 uncomfortable medical procedures if you have breast cancer. Not even in the top 10,000 things. Women with ANY family history should start talking to their doc in their 20's. Yes - 20's and start mammograms in 30's if there's any way to swing it if health insurance doesn't pay for it.

If there's ANY question about your mammogram, get a second opinion at a Medical Center/teaching hospital. They look at all questionable mammos together weekly so it's less likely something will slip by. That's how my breast cancer was caught - by the weekly conference. As I was doing clinical breast cancer research, I often went to those conferences (but didn't go when they discussed me).

And here's the kicker: the rates are increasing even faster among Black women. Pick a month and do it that month every year. Again, a mammogram is nothing compared to having breast cancer or losing your life to it.

Catch it early, get it taken care of and live the rest of your life.

Tough like Tasha. Or as Kay Yow used to say "if life kicks you, let it kick you forward.'
