I hope Paige comes back. She's essentially played 1.5 years of college basketball, she's making a ton of money and I think she has a better likelihood of going #1 in 2025 than she does in 2024. |
Her #1 likelihood continues to drop as she's gotten the moniquer of "Injury Prone" to WNBA Gm's around the league rn. If Money and the Nati are the most important things of paige's future i pray she stays healthy because the W has a short stick for player's who have had multiple injuries in high school/ college. If anything UCONN should take a page no pun out of Stanford and ND's playbook and stop announcing the injuries as that effect's their stock immediately once put out . |
If Paige has an injury-free season, she should come out. Same with Azzi Fudd.
Is there a reason that going #1 is important? Is there some rookie contract deal where the #1 makes more money, or is it simply a bargaining point? All other things being equal, if you're not the #1, you're generally going to a better team.

For some players, being the #1 pick ends up being the highlight of their WNBA career.

That's a little dramatic. Every #1 pick in the last 20 years besides Janel McCarville, Lindsey Harding and Charli Collier has been a legit All-Star. Harding was a 6 year starter and McCarville was a starter on a Championship team. Charli's the only one that's been a true flop.
Now, the #2 pick...oof, that's a different story.

Agreed , but assuming the rookie is going to play overseas to start her pro career there's a big difference in contracts for #1 versus 2-10 etc...not a lot in the W.

i didn't see this in the thread yet, but may have missed it.
is there a list of players who are seniors with no eligibility left (as of now, assuming no redshirt injury going forward)?

Rickea Jackson, Elizabeth Kitley, Charisma Osborne, Celeste Taylor, Mackenzie Holmes, Jacy Sheldon and Alissa Pili are the most noteworthy 5th years. Pretty much everyone else being talked about can stay if they want.

| It's great that the WNBA is adding new teams to the league. But I do have a question for all of you savvy business people out there. Would it be better for any top college prospects to leave school in 2024 or 2025?

I’ve also been thinking about how the expansion would affect Brink’s decision. She has the Steph Curry as her godbrother connection to Golden State. But her hometown is Beaverton, which is in the Portland area. If they use the same draft methods as before, I think it’d be difficult for either expansion team to acquire her with the 2025 college draft or the 2025 expansion draft if she would enter the 2024 college draft.
But SEA is in a good position to draft her in 2024, so maybe that’s close enough for now, if she’s interested in the hometown aspect?. Portland is 174 miles from Seattle. I get the feeling she’s somewhat worldly, so maybe she doesn’t really care about the hometown aspect.

Hopefully getting some growing up experiences after playing for three different college teams in 3 years. We've had a slew of great talents sabotaging their BB career by not growing up well or getting the right advisors so they're learning the right lessons. I'd love to see Owusu displaying her talent in the WNBA. Currently there's zero chance Thibault brings her to DC.
