The season technically started on Wednesday, but it's not officially another WNBL season until Sami hits an end-of-quarter buzzer-beater.
So now we're underway.

She's playing in Australia this season, for the Sydney Flames. Season starts in 10 days. (you may have already known that) So I'll be keeping a close eye on her performance too.

My thoughts after game 1: ok, her shooting form is still busted

Interesting collaboration: WNBL games to be shown on the WNBA app

https://wnbl.basketball/blog/news/wnbl-games-to-be-shown-on-wnba-app/

Quote:
To celebrate World Basketball Day, the WNBL today announced that League games and content will, for the first time, be shown on the WNBA App. This means the WNBL is now available in over 100 countries cementing it as one of the world’s premier leagues.

The WNBA App will deliver all remaining games over the final three months of the WNBL regular season, plus all Finals – meaning more than 50 WNBL games will be shown between November 2023 and March 2024. Additional short form content will also be made available.

There are a host of WNBA players playing in the WNBL this season, with American athletes Jordin Canada, Mercedes Russell, Brianna Turner, Jocelyn Willoughby, Aari McDonald, Naz Hillmon, and Amanda Zahui B, and Australian athletes Jade Melbourne, Sami Whitcomb, Kristy Wallace and 2023 WNBA Championship winner, Cayla George.

The Capitals-Lightning game from last night is there to rewatch, but that appears to be it so far. As far as I can see they haven't added anything to the schedule either on the regular League Pass online portal or the app.

Very fun end to the regular season with so many permutations possible on the standings. It took until the final game to determine that Townsville would finish #1, and Perth would scrape into the playoffs thanks to their head-to-head record against Sydney & Bendigo. Aari McDonald returned from injury just in time for Perth.

Stats Leaders for the regular season:

(Hour-long) interview of Emily Potter on Youtube or Spotify

When she has stayed out of foul trouble (which was rare in the first half of the season, but she is getting the hang of things now) she has been pretty effective for this team. McDonald & Atwell have got most of the attention, but Maley & Potter have been key to this unexpected Perth title run.

I know she's only 19, but disappointing to see Puoch pretty much fall out of Southside's rotation after getting plenty of minutes earlier in the season.

Oh Lauren. The nostalgia of it. I will forever be grateful watching her on TV playing for Seattle Storm and won titles. One of my favorite players ever (her and Birdy). One of the goats. Even with her age, it's nice to see her still hooping.

After what looked like a pretty glaring travel from Mitchell before getting the ball to her, too. Last I checked you're not allowed to take a couple of steps, toss the ball up in the air, then go after it and tap it again to a teammate.
