Georgia must think they are playing against an SEC team. Iowa players CAN make their three point shots.

Iowa stayed in front in the 1H by hitting a supra-normal 9-16 on 3pt shots even with Clark relatively controlled. It's statistically unlikely they will keep that up, but who knows.

Iowa 58 UGA 54 at the end of the 3rd quarter

Georgia staying with them even though Iowa has 12 of 25 3's. Georgia out-rebounding Iowa 33 to 22 and killing them on the offensive boards. UGA 10 steals to 5

This game is a good reminder why it's bullshit that higher seeds get to host. I understand the attendance reasons for why it happens, but it's such an advantage and really hampers the tournament.

Oof. Georgia killing themselves with those three straight turnovers, and then really compound it with the blown layup.

I hear ya. The ultimate conundrum- but empty arenas are the risk you take and it’s bad for TV.

Someplace in between would work, where fans of both teams could make it, maybe. I know Iowa fans are really devoted, and I think Bulldog fans are too. A place that’s reachable, one way or another—I know some schools charter buses. JMU had a sizable contingent in Columbus but they were, of course, outshouted by the home crowd.

Since a distressing number of home fans don't bother showing up for the other game, you end up with neutral games that have no attendance and home site games that do. So half the time it still looks bad on TV *and* you're giving the higher seeds an additional advantage.

Not only that, it's hard to get arenas to bid for events where nobody shows up. They lose money and everybody winds up dissatisfied.

Congrats to Iowa: this was, to me, a classic March Madness game - outcome not too predictable. The underdog fighting like the blazes, putting the favorite on the ropes, who also maintained composure....and it all came down to the last minutes. Georgia cannot hang their heads: they played FAR better than most might have anticipated

Re: the home crowd conundrum? I like Coach Abe's comment on how prepared they've been in their season for this kind of environment; Playing games at SC, LSU, TN, etc., is good prep - not as good it being your OWN crowd, but The Best Players can learn to do it anywhere. And it definitely showed - her girls were READY, undaunted by Iowa's ranking.
