Wonder who spilled the beans? It’s no secret that Aces players took (some say hefty) salary cuts this season to allegedly keep last year’s champs together for another title run.

Don't know who did it, but the first guess feels pretty obvious.

This would certainly explain why everyone is abandoning the Storm, whose owners are not as wealthy as others and make as large under-the-counter payments.

No mystery how this got out (answer: it's the agents). ...From article:" according to those familiar with the allegations, the pattern alleged that the team followed typically involved a high-level member of the Aces instructing the agent of a potential signing — either a free agent, or an Aces player negotiating an extension — that at the conclusion of the phone call between team and agent, the agent would receive a call with an offer for a specific amount of money from a particular, pre-selected company. The work involved would be negligible, according to those familiar with the allegations" .......followed by:" Multiple agents have begun pushing other teams to adopt such arrangements already, three WNBA front office members told The Next".

Look at the Aces salaries. They are paying over $973k for their top 6 players, each of whom will play for way under their real value. This does not count Riq's unguaranteed $149k. Now they have resigned Kia Stokes (very valuable as interior bulwark vs Stew/Jones). i am sure Kia is also playing for well below what she has made in past. These #'s stink.

Remember when Hamby said "I was promised things to entice me to sign my contract extension that were not followed through on" in that Instagram statement? If she's *not* one of the sources I'll be surprised.

So if the Aces are found guilty of any wrong doing, what is likely to come from it?

If found guilty, the Aces should relinquish the 2022 WNBA Championship, be fined 2Mil, management should be suspended for 3 years, lose their next 3 first round draft picks and the Aces players involve should have their contract voided.

Such a sense of entitlement from the Aces organization.

I'm glad a dime was dropped on the Aces. Nobody should be surprise a team own by Mark "Just Win Baby" Davis is soiled. Watch Davis lay fault at Fargas and Williams when his hands were dirty too.

Call me stuck in the past but I miss the days when titles were won by good ol' fashioned tanking rather than dodgy payments for fake jobs.
There's a purity about tanking that just can't be replicated by other means.

The following penalties are outlined in the CBA:

Fine up to $1M
Forfeiture of draft picks
Voiding of contracts in violation
Suspension of team personnel and player agents for 1 year

Penalties to players are handled by the Players Association but not specified in the CBA.

There's an article, here, Luuuc, that you need to write. You've already got a great title: "The Purity of Tanking." Can't wait to read the piece.

I would really like to see this happen if the allegations are true. For me the most important penalty is voiding the contracts.
