If I was Dallas I would definitely try to make Mayberry and mcCowan strong offers and avoid offer sheets . I would also at least try to posture that I would match any offer and try to work a sign and trade if I secretly thought I was going to get outbid.

The only way I think they lose either is if both sign huge offers from other teams and Dallas get nervous about money and only matches one.

I realize I was the one who suggested mabrey to Chicago but it was just fanciful and attached to my sloot to Seattle storyline

If Chicago did lose sloot I would offer mabrey max

Switching topics if A gray still wants out would pick 6 and wing of Dallas’ choice between Willoughby Onyenwere or Richards be enough , if not would 6 and Allen work? (I know she isn’t the traditional PG people want to match with Ionescu but Gray/Ionescu I think could be great back-court pair and Ny could still resign Dangerfield as a decent minute back up PG who could be paired with either Iosecu or Gray.

No to Willoughby Richards and Allen . Give us #6 & old lady Laney and maybe Bibb will indulge !

I would consider it but that feels like a lateral move

Adding Gray to a line up with Ionescu, Laney and Howard would be the plan maybe not a super star line up but with a two headed center of Dolson and Han Xu and a decent bench with Dangerfield, Johannes and whatever young post we can get to show between Kone and N Sabally gives ny a decent deep squad without Laney we would probably still need another piece to rise to contender level

Can I interest you in a sister act N Sabally and pick 6 we could throw in one of our wings

i have half a mind to think Dallas ought to mix it up some with their roster

—trade/waive anyone completely buried in the depth chart
—trade/waive anyone who's even slightly yearning for greener pastures, even if VJ was why they wanted to leave in the first place
—trade/waive anyone who Trammell doesn't think fits her system

they don’t need to blow up the team, but to me the Wings shouldn't be content to simply run it all back with a new coach and just assume Trammell (who has never been a fulltime HC in the W before) will make it all come together either

it's 100% time to end the conservative approach to building the roster and get aggressive with who you need on your team

Chiney would be an upgrade over Pebley, but not sure if she’s an upgrade to your frontcourt.

No we do not need to blow up the team just yet , If gray want's out let her go and get something in return . Run it back with the line up of

Mabrey
Arike
Thornton or Whoever
Sabally
McCowan

1 more run and if they don't improve #Blow the shit up LOL

Everyone wants to rob us blind and leave us with little to nothing so we will forever be at the bottom with IN but never want to truly see us gain any major assets so we can get to the next level, SMDH!!!

Number 6 and a player isn’t being robbed blind for a decent but not all star level starter who wants out.

I hope for Dallas’ sake Gray stays or they get a decent return but a decent first round pick or a less expensive starter not all star is probably the going price

Maybe Chicago offers the 5 pick or Atl maybe pick 3 if they try to go in more of a win now direction but based on teams timelines, the fact that Gray has a good value but large contract that some teams can’t take on and a few teams like Seattle and LA have very little to offer i’ m not sure there is a bigger deal out there for Gray.

What would you view as a fair deal for Gray?

I'm not saying your proposal would be robbing us blind but there are many other suggestions out there who do want that!

I don't want to see Gray going to Chicago, so I would definitely do the deal with ATL for the #3 pick😁

Happy New Year, y’all! I decided to take a crack at predicting the salary ranges I think each free agent will fall in this year, just for fun. I had the time, so why not. Where would you disagree?

—This assumes any given player doesn’t sit out the 2023 season
—Salary figures are as they show up in salary cap charts (doesn't take into account bonuses/flat rates & all that)
—Salary figures are just for 2023 season, even if multiyear deals are signed
—Tiers are divided taking into account both player (realized) talent level and predicted salary range
—Tries to take into account historical trends with player – has claimed to have been willing to take and/or has actually taken hometown discounts, tends to sign for above/below (a certain) value, etc
—Any other free agent not listed I don't foresee signing anything above a Training Camp contract
—Does not include Reserved or 'SuspCE' players

Damn that's a HUGE jump for T-Mac! Obviously my numbers for her ($120k) we're waaaay off...I want to keep her here in Dallas but damn, I don't want to have to pay her that much😒

The open market determines how much money every player will get in the 2023 free agency season. Those numbers might be high or low depending on how much the player is willing to accept versus how much each team is willing to spend.💵💵💵💵

My rationale was, there very well may be bidding wars for those higher-end restricted free agents ([RFA]). Other teams may bet on their respective 2022 teams not matching at a certain price and/or being willing to work out a sign-and-trade or two.

McCowan in particular has been nothing but statistically very consistent since entering the league. And 6-7 centers who are proven contributors don’t grow on trees. Her agent'll be getting a few calls, for sure.

McCowan's a really interesting case. There just aren't many people who can do what she can do, but she's been inconsistent in the WNBA. And in our mock offseason, we didn't end up with many teams who had money left and felt like they needed/wanted to add a true center. Dallas could end up bidding mostly against themselves.

But to make the case for just how good she is (or can be), 40 players in league history have 4+ seasons with a PER at 20 or higher. McCowan's one of them. 20 players in league history had a PER at 20 or higher in all of their first four seasons. She's one of them too, and look at the list: McCowan, Cooper, Wilson, (Cambage), (Stewart), JJones, Moore, Augustus*, Griffith, Holdsclaw, Swoopes, Griner, McCoughtry, Delle Donne, Jackson, N.Ogwumike, Leslie, Taylor, Parker*, Catchings. There's maybe 18 Hall of Famers on that list of 20 names, and we're talking Naismith not Women's Hall.

And she's 26. There are plenty of worse gambles than throwing a lot of money at that possibility.

I do think if someone like Natalie Achonwa in 2020 can get a $160k contract – being a good 3-4 inches shorter and coming off of a 2019 season where she averaged not even 8 ppg on not even 50% fg – then so can McCowan. The league-wide salary-structure landscape back then vs how it looks now should be taken into consideration, but I said what I said lol

The open market determines how much money every player will get in the 2023 free agency season. Those numbers might be high or low depending on how much the player is willing to accept versus how much each team is willing to spend.💵💵💵💵

Good point 😁

Damn that's a HUGE jump for T-Mac! Obviously my numbers for her ($120k) we're waaaay off...I want to keep her here in Dallas but damn, I don't want to have to pay her that much😒

You're right...I take back my original thought process😒

Damn, I wasn't aware of all that but despite the way I was thinking before, I really do like Mccowan and I definitely want her to remain in Dallas!!!

No , but if we cannot afford her she will take the money elsewhere. McCowan is priority , guards come a dime a dozen in these college drafts. Do i trust Harris or Burton to replace what mabrey brings ? Not a chance.......
