I've been biting my tongue for a year, holding back on a scorching hot take. I want one more season of data before I say something but, for better or worse, I will definitely have my eye on the Sparks next season.

Their only hope for next season is to deep dive into free agency and try to get the best players available. Spend big money 💰.

Would not surprise me if CP3 buys (10-50%) of the LA Sparks after she retires.

I believe so....Candace has a number of high-profile jobs (TNT, NCAA)...Endorsements (Adidas, CarMax, Muscle Milk, Capital One)...and a number of investments...CP3 bought a 4 million dollar home 1 or 2 years ago.

That home is everything! I recall some thought the purchase of that home meant she wouldn’t leave the Sparks Arrow

#freeNneka then I can chant "beat LA" as we are wont to do in the NW for any LA team at any level. Laughing

I would really like to see her go to Minny. Then what oh what will poor Shades do?

Yes it’s been 6 years this october but i’m still bitter. I’ll pass on Shot clock violation Nneka coming to Minnesota.

I vaguely remember there was a Minnesota violation that didn't get called right before that one....but you guys only remember the one. And anyway, shouldn't you be bitter about the refs, not the player?

I don’t think she’s that rich. Maybe a sliver comparable to Montgomery’s share in Atlanta.

Why not buy into Chicago instead? I think that would be more warmly received and also more realistic.

Buying part of the Chicago Sky could also be an option...I specifically mentioned the Sparks because 1. They need to do something that's going to Spark the franchise...2. Candace owns a house in LA and 3. Candace is part of an ownership group that owns a LA Soccer team (Angel City FC)

I'm fairly certain that Montgomery's share is purely ceremonial and did not include any financial contribution from her. They included her as a much needed PR move.

Wasn't Lisa Leslie part owner of the Sparks for a moment? I think it would be more worthwhile to bring Candace into the front office.

Kristi Toliver, is she retiring as a player for a seat on the Sparks bench as a coach or going back to the Dallas Mavericks as assistant coach fulltime?

I guess 'time being' might not mean forever.

Given that she brings more baggage and drama than every soap opera and teen drama combined, is it so bad to think that is simply addition by subtraction?

LA the realistic simple plan

re-sign N. Ogwumike
re-sign L. Brown
re-sign Sykes

offer decent money to bring back
UFA E. Wheeler
offer big money/near max money to
UFA B. Jones

Wheeler/Carter
Brown/Burrell
Sykes/KLS
N. Ogwumike/Walker
B. Jones/Nelson-Odada

2nd round pick #14 (If LA gets really lucky maybe Cooke or Horston falls to 14 if not someone like Dixon, Brown-Turner, Robertson or Sheldon could fill a 5th guard spot), vet minimum or waiver wire to fill out last two spots

not very exciting but feels achievable and the team while not tippy top contender status is decent.

I will try to come up with a more out of the box one later

KEEP:
Nneka
Brittney
Chennedy
Olivia (as a back up post a la Kiah Stokes)
Zahui B

Dump the rest - especially KLS. Hold a fire sale and try to get some picks in this excellent draft. If there is no team willing to be KLS' 5th team in 5 years, buyout agreement.

Priority #1: A point guard who can pass, SHOOT and defend
Priority #2: A wing player who is tall, can score regularly, and DEFEND
Priority #3: A starting BIG.

Obviously first find a professional GM who has the first clue how to put a competitive team together. Two hints: 1) stop signing players unhappy on more than one previous team (Skylar) and 2) pay attention to player height and don't bring in several short players at the same time. One more hint: keep in mind on and off court compatibility (don't bring in a self ordained "star" who will immediately bust all chemistry). Add on to above hint: make sure a self ordained star will accept a new jersey number and not lead to removing a solid if not spectacular post player from the squad.

I see Zahui B as a solid back up post - similar to Stef Dolson. I set priorities at positions where LA has no starter and no back up that fit the basic requirements. Sykes doesn't really have a position but her energy and other worldly physical talents make her a nice glue player.

Chennedy staying is completely dependent on how disruptive she is in the lockerroom. We got no info about why she was held out of so many games this season. I can only assume something was not quite right there since her talent was far superior to her replacements.

* Trade for SDS (Carter, Zahui b, 1st & 2nd rd pk for SDS)
* Offer B.Jones big money
* Sign Sykes
* Sign Brown
* Sign L.Allen
* Sign Chiney

Unfortunately and fortunately Nneka will force the Sparks to sign Chiney as part of her contract negotiations. The Sparks should be able to sign Chiney on the cheap.

SDS/Allen
Sykes/Brown
KLS/Burrell
N. Ogwumike/Chiney
B. Jones/Nelson-Odada
