You can add New York to the list. She flat out refused to play post defense for any teams and now we can see she just didn't want to. She's now passing up some of those shots where she's marginally open to get to a truly open teammate. ARGH! I detest players who turn it off when they feel like it then turn it on when they get what they want.

Perhaps it has more to do with her responsibilities and teammates.

Certainly on New York and Phoenix (I don’t know about Washington), in order for her team to win she needed to score a lot - which means the energy output is lessened for defense.

Y'all need to listen. Mercfan has a lot of experience making excuses for a lack of defense from a star.

I'd love to hear the rationale from whoever threw in that Hines-Allen vote. Wouldn't have been on my ballot if they'd asked for a top-five.

I would just like to have a long conversation with whoever in the WNBA PR department keeps referring to the franchise in Uncasville as the Connecticut Suns. I promise I will not ask Ms. Jones for her chef’s knife before this conversation.

Well deserved. In my opinion, could have been in that MIP group too.

I've been waiting on this breakdown to see. I wouldn't have minded a tie this year. Both players really did deserve it. I wasn't expecting Plum to be 3rd, but she did have a great year. I love the 1st place vote for Chelsea. The one for Candace was expected. Some of the other voting breakdowns were, let's say interesting.

Note that there are 56 votes. No player appeared on all 56 ballots. Stewart and Wilson each appeared on 55.

That was some sort of protest vote I am guessing or wanting to be contrary or maybe some on this board are voters.

pilight (or anyone else in the know), what's the highest an MVP's teammate has finished in MVP voting? Relatedly, what's the highest we've seen a third player from the same team finish in MVP voting?

We don't know that they were both left off the same ballot.

After largely moving away from repeat winners for several years, Wilson is now the second player to win her second MVP in the last four years. I'll be interested to see if we are swinging back to an era like earlier in the league history where repeat winners were common - between 2002 and 2007, for example, only 1 of 6 awards went to first-time winner.

3rd, by Kelsey Plum this year

It's uncommon to get three players from the same team receiving votes. The highest we've seen a third player from the same team was Tina Thompson finishing 6th in 2000. Cynthia Cooper was 5th and Sheryl Swoopes was 1st.

Very interesting that 10 of the 12 teams had at least 1 player get a vote.

Also, I've seen on twitter at least folks saying Stewie got robbed. She wasn't. If she had won, I wouldn't say A'ja got robbed. Both were very deserving of MVP and as I said earlier, I'd have been fine with a tie. Both women were that awesome this season.

WOW! Congrats to A'ja!!!!!

I really though Breanna was going to get it by a razor's edge. I think the domination of the Aces put A'ja over the top by a hair. Both are deserving. But only one is in the Finals.

Would whoever compiles these for .com please learn how to add names to the custom dictionary? Or at least turn off spell check before taking the screenshot? The “misspelling” underlines are really jarring, and also a bit telling as to which unusual names get added to the custom dictionary.

I want to know who the hell those four people are who thought there were two players above Stewie. 4 votes for third place, WTF!!? I get the Wilson vote, but who else did they think was better? That’s bs.

One of the had either Candace Parker or Chelsea Gray 1st. Wilson was 1st or 2nd on all but one ballot. Since she clearly wasn't 1st on either of those she must have been 2nd on at least one of them, leaving Stewart somewhere lower.

Probably the same person that gave Arike a 5th place vote.
