pilight (or anyone else in the know), what's the highest an MVP's teammate has finished in MVP voting? Relatedly, what's the highest we've seen a third player from the same team finish in MVP voting?

3rd, by Kelsey Plum this year

It's uncommon to get three players from the same team receiving votes. The highest we've seen a third player from the same team was Tina Thompson finishing 6th in 2000. Cynthia Cooper was 5th and Sheryl Swoopes was 1st.

What's the previous high we've seen for an MVP's teammate? Is 9th the second highest we've seen for the third teammate in MVP voting?

Could the on-air reveal have been any more anticlimactic?

Were they waiting on late ballots or did they forget that they hadn’t announced it?

They announced at the end of the regular season that the All-WNBA Teams would be announced on September 15. All awards this year had their announcement dates set ahead of time. DPOY is the only one that got moved a smidge I believe.

Don't they always announced the All-WNBA Teams during the finals?

IMO it was the not just the day it was announced that made it feel rushed, but the timing -- 5 minutes before the game was set to begin at the very end of the pregame show which was on a different channel from the main game. Would have been nicer to announce it earlier in the day or at the beginning of the pregame show so it didn't feel so rushed.

Of course not. Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie, and Maya Moore all did so. It's also possible that 2021 was Brittney Griner's retirement season without anyone knowing it.

Unless I missed something, Maya Moore hasn’t officially retired. Maybe “during last season played” would be a better phrase.

I don’t consider Maya since she hasn’t officially “retired” yet.

Moore's priority right now is her family. She gave over half her life to basketball. There are no more worlds to conquer in basketball for her.
