We open this thread in anticipation of next season for Dawn Staley's 2022 National Champions.

Currently the returning roster will include:

Victoria Saxton (Super Sr.)
Aliyah Boston (Sr.)
Zia Cooke (Sr.)
Brea Beal (Sr.)
Laeticia Amihere (Sr.)
Olivia Thompson (Sr.)
Kamilla Cardoso (Jr.)
Bree Hall (So.)
Sania Feagin (So.)
Raven Johnson (So.)

Added to the team will also be incoming transfer Kierra Fletcher, a Super Senior, out of Georgia Tech.

Also added are incoming freshmen from the 2022 class, Ashlyn Watkins and Talaysia Cooper, to bring the roster to a total of 13 players. The team will feature a highly experienced, upperclass-laden roster that will look to defend it's title.

As far as learning what next season's non-conference schedule will look like, Dawn is notorious with making the official announcement much later than most other top programs have released theirs. She has also noted on several occasions that it's pretty hard getting other top programs to agree to schedule with hers, with how competitive her program is these days.

As is often the case, we learn who South Carolina will play against first by those other programs announcing the match-ups on their social feeds, before USC makes any announcement.

We have learned recently that the Gamecocks and Oregon have agreed to a home-and-home starting this 2022-23 season:

https://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2022/06/oregon-womens-basketball-to-play-home-and-home-with-south-carolina.html

The actual dates and which team will be the home team first, hasn't yet been ironed out. South Carolina and Oregon met last season in the Battle 4 Atlantis Invitational, with the Gamecocks beating an injury-depleted Ducks 80-63 en route to winning the tournament.

While that match-up was not deemed an "officially" scheduled one, both programs were expected to face each other in Oregon to open the 2020-21 season, but that game fell through for reasons I am not totally clear on - either over the pandemic, or they just couldn't agree on where, when, who, how, why, etc....

...and to be true, that could still happen here as official dates have not been hammered out, but they do have an agreement in principle going forward.....

After playing South Dakota in the previous 3 seasons, the South Carolina Gamecocks will schedule a home and away with the South Dakota State Jackrabbits beginning with this coming 2022-23 season. The first game will be played December 15 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, per the Jackrabbits' official athletics website:

South Carolina announced it's full non-conference schedule, which completes the full schedule for the 2022-23 season. One note of interest is that a game against Oregon is NOT a part of the schedule, which is surprising since it was announced that both program agreed to a home and home to begin this season. I guess neither school could agree on who got the home game first, or what date to play it on.

South Carolina icon @_ajawilson22 wouldn’t let her child play for @GamecockWBB. USWNT star @Cdunn19 calls playing in a red state “a non starter.” As rights erode, pro athletes fear for future of women’s sports

did not expect Columbia's own to say this but she is not happy with the government in her home. If anyone can pressure them she can https://twitter.com/usatodaysports/status/1570091446186967040

Hey Conway-somewhere on Twitter I feel like I read that SC is dealing with some lingering injuries. I haven't seen it posted anywhere else though. Is it true? If it is, who?

South Carolina defeats Benedict College in their exhibition tonight 123-32. The score wasn't unexpected. Eight (8 ) Gamecocks scored in double digits, and Aliyah Boston was not one of them (she had 8 pts and 7 boards in 20 minutes).

Freshmen Ashlyn Watkins had 11 pts, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals in 15 minutes before fouling out. Her fellow Freshman class member Talaysia Cooper had 11 pts, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 steals, and 2 blocks in 25 minutes. Sophomore Sania Feagin added 17 pts, 12 rebounds, and 4 steals in 20 minutes. Also Soph. Bree Hall chipped in with 19 pts and 4 rebounds. Reserve Olivia Thompson added 14 pts, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists in 15 minutes.

Starter Zia Cooke scored 19 pts - 12 of them in the 1st half - to get the team jump-started, adding 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Kamilla Cardoso added 10 pts, 8 boards, and 2 steals, and Laeticia Amihere chipped in with 11 pts, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks.

Chloe Kitts commits to South Carolina . From Gamecock Central :

South Carolina got its third commitment of the fall when Chloe Kitts announced her decision.

Kitts is a 6-2 forward from DME Academy in Daytona Beach, FL. She is ranked 17th overall in the class of 2023 by HoopGurlz. She visited South Carolina the weekend of September 24. Kitts picked South Carolina over finalists Arizona, Duke, Louisville, NC State, and Oklahoma.

Without any warning, Kitts announced her decision on social media Friday afternoon. She doubled down on the surprises by adding that she will forgo her senior season and enroll early.

The " enroll early " part is a little puzzling . I guess she means enroll in January . That doesn't happen that often in basketball . Could be a good move though if she plans to redshirt this coming season . Get a head start on academics , conditioning , the weight room , etc.

Milaysia Fulwiley announced her commitment to South Carolina today! Fulwiley's commitment brings the total 2023 class to 4, with two more un-committed players in the class with USC as one of their finalists.

Fulwiley is the #13 overall player in Hoopsgurlz' class, and the #3 PG. She's the overall #3 rated player, and #1 PG per ProspectsNation.com. She's a local out of Columbia, SC's W.J. Keenan High School....

South Carolina still have prospects Judea "JuJu" Watkins and Cassandra Prosper who have them as finalists, who have yet to announce their final decisions.....

#1 South Carolina is currently 8-0 on the season. They have 4 more non-conference games to play before the conference season begins, then have their game at CT in February. They should be expected to go 4-0 in those remaining games for the SEC slate: 5-4 South Dakota State should be competitive in Sioux Falls, SD, but the other 3 are a combined 3-15 at this point, so they are schedule fillers.

Over the last 3 games since returning from not seeing any action versus Cal Poly, Kamilla Cardoso has scored 45 pts on 20-28 (.714) shooting, with 33 rebounds and 10 blocks in 60 minutes of action. That's an average of 15.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg, and 3.3 bpg, in 20 mpg of action. The light seems to have come on for Kamilla.

During the same stretch of games, Boston has scored 38 pts on 11-18 (.611) shooting, with 24 rebounds and 7 blocks. Of course, Boston is dealing with an ankle sprain. But it's a great luxury to have both Boston and Cardoso when they are playing at full strength....

Our post players have been very efficient in their scoring thus far this season:

Boston: .639 FG%
Cardoso: .708
Amihere: .553
Watkins: .619
Feagin: .571
Saxton: .412

Well, with the exception of Saxton. Not sure what is up with her - she came back for a super-senior season reportedly to improve on her professional opportunities, but she has fairly rescinded into the shadows a bit here. Saxton shot .551 throughout her previous 4-year career, so her struggles this season is stark. She had her highest point average in 20-21, averaging 8.9 ppg in 31 gms (30 starts), and has declined since then...

South Carolina improved to 9-0 with their 88-39 win over 2-5 Liberty in Colonial Life Arena. The remainder of the OOC schedule for South Carolina before the SEC schedule begins looks to be more of the same with the likely exception of South Dakota State, which is their next game Thursday.

SDS is 6-4 but has wins over Mississippi State and Louisville, and most recently over then #24 Kansas State yesterday. Our game will be in Sioux Falls, SD so conditions will be most hostile for the Gamecocks. The Jackrabbits are typically a strong WBB program, and should give the Gamecocks a battle.

The other 2 opponents - Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina - are a combined 3 and 12 on the season thus far, and both games will be in Columbia, so the Gamecocks should be heavily favored in those. The Gamecocks bench out-scored Liberty's own reserves today 44-1, so there should be more opportunities for the Gamecock reserves to get in good minutes over the next 2-3 games......

Chloe Kitts officially entered her first game as a South Carolina Gamecock today versus Charleston Southern. The game is still underway: it's a blow-out stat-padder as expected. Kitts has 8 pts on 3-5 shooting - 1-1 from the 3pt line - 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in 10 minutes of game action. The game is still in the 3rd Period as of this submittal....

Are you watching? If so, are her other makes layup type shots or does she have more of an outside shot compared to the other guards at SC?

Chloe's first shot attempt as a Gamecock was a missed jumper. Her first points was 1 point from the free throw line. Her first made shot was a layup on a 2-on-1 fast break with the assist to Talaysia Cooper. Her 3rd shot was the made 3.

So she started 2-3 for 6 pts. Then she missed her next jumper, but got the rebound and assisted to Ashlyn Watkins for the layup. Then Kitts was subbed out of the game at 4:41 mark of the 2nd period, and didn't play again for the 1st half.

Kitts came back in at the 5:36 mark of the 3rd period. She made her first shot of the 2nd half - a jumper off of a fast-break. That is where my above post was with her having 8 pts on 3-5 shooting.

Kitts since missed another jumper towards the end of the 3rd period, then another missed jumper early in the 4th. Then a made jumper, then finally a missed jumper.

So Kitts finished with 10 pts on 4-9 shooting - 3-8 from jump shots, 1-1 from layups. She also had 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in 23 minutes of action.

The Gamecocks defeated Charleston Southern 87-23. They out-scored the Buccaneers 35-6 in the 1st half, and 59-11 through three periods. Their 4th quarter was the most prolific score-wise, for both teams. Also, Watkins had another dunk, although it was more of a rim-rattler than a slammer like her first offering....
