New season, so WNBA Dissected is back (we decided against yet another name change this year). Week 1 covers the Minnesota mess, lamentable League Pass, dreadful foul calls that need to be removed from the game, fun lineup decisions and Emma Meesseman's striking resemblance to Destanni Henderson.

WNBA Dissected: Minnesota mess merits concern, League Pass losses, plus more from 2022 Week 1: https://herhoopstats.substack.com/p/wnba-dissected-week1-lynx-leaguepass-fouls

aside from nationality, height, age, skin color, hair color, hair length, hair style - I can see the resemblance. I mean they're both kinda cute after all.

Nice week 1 summary! You are spot on with League pass and so right that the call on Dana was atrocious! Btw, it is utterly unbelievable that the situation in Minny has gotten even stranger. Syl does not deserve this craziness!!

While it might be too early to mention the only team that is 3-0 (Mystics), it would have been nice - and great opportunity to counterbalance all the negative stories that were rightfully covered. Especially given they are not mentioned in ANY of the pre-season top 5 teams and have been playing without key players in each game they won. Yes MVP EDD was back for 2 out of the 3 games, but they beat the mess in Minnesota without her. And then beat the pre-season top 3 Aces without the star of game 2 (Tasha Cloud). Still missing the only vet center on the roster (Elizabeth Williams). And shout out to rookie Shakira Austin for going up against Big Syl fearlessly!

Week 2 is out, covering all the option/extension activity (and the time-off bonus that never was), multiple teams messing up end-of-game situations, the Lynx getting an end-of-game situation very right, teams going big being a trend, Derek Fisher letting me down, Steph Talbot doing things right, and plenty more.

Week 6 on how good Magbegor's getting, how important international players are, more interesting stats (including that Diana Taurasi has maybe sucked?), and the rule loophole that may help New York.

Whew that defensive rating for DT is 👀😂

I mean can’t say I’m too surprised, far too often after making a pass that’s stolen or thrown away she’ll just stand there while the other players are scrambling down the other end of the court Confused No wonder SDS is pissy Laughing Laughing although they’ve seemed to patch things up. For now 👀

Bit of a special edition this week, where I trade Skylar Diggins-Smith literally everywhere. Went long, so Part One today, Part Two tomorrow.

As a Dream fan, I'd be OK with that trade

I like the Dallas one best. But I think not enough time has passed/change has happened for SDS to be welcomed back there. She pretty much spit on Dallas on the way out.

I actually think a Vegas trade could be worked out: Gray for SDS with whatever extra pieces to make the numbers work. Gray and Plaisance for SDS?

Yeah, I think I was too generous there. At the very least Atlanta would need to put their own pick in, rather than Washington's.

Yes, several of these involve some 'hold your nose' elements that would likely scupper them in real life.

I just think the people Vegas already have are too good of a fit together. As mentioned in the article, I don't do it for any of them.

Thanks for reading everybody!

I will be absolutely surprised if Phoenix were to trade SDS on Friday. The numbers just don't work for most teams right now. The best time for a trade for her would be the off season. Many teams will have a ton of cap space for the 2023 season and will have the money then to pay her that fat salary she is earning.

Let's not get crazy. I'm OK with the trade but I don't love it. I keep hoping McDonald will force Wheeler to the bench but she never quite gets there.
