Neither of them are as versatile as Boston. I see her closer to A’ja Wilson if she can strengthen her body a bit. Boston started shooting the three a lot sooner than Wilson.

Her game is nothing like Wilson’s.

Well actually now that Wilson has moved to the center position, they are kinda similar. Wilson is discovering that she’s a pretty good defensive center (aka Parker?) with all her blocks (she had 6 in the Commissioner’s Cup final).

Quote:
Aliyah Boston Naismith Defensive Player of the Year (2022)

Boston and Wilson both come from South Carolina Dawn Staley basketball, so Boston should be getting the same physical and basketball training.

myrtle wrote:
Yeah she shoots the three, but she's not nearly as athletic, long, or mobile.

It’s kinda hard to match the natural upper body strength of Wilson unless your name is McCowan. She is hitting the gym pretty hard though, so you never know how that might go. I think lengthwise they’re pretty much the same. And she’s pretty mobile for a center. I never said that Boston is a Wilson clone. What I’m saying is she’s a lot closer to Wilson than EWilliams. You had to have written that name down to provoke a response. EWill is somebody playing behind a rookie in Shakira Austin, a rookie who is third or fourth in the current ROY race.

myrtle wrote:
Will she go #1. Yeah, inevitably.

And you think it’s inevitable not because of her talent but rather her hype? Yeah, she gets so much hype that she can’t even get an invite to the ESPY’s.

myrtle wrote:
And you're right she will probably start for Indy or NY.

I could see ATL, maybe WAS (they have the Sparks pick).

myrtle wrote:
That doesn't make her a generational talent.

Your need to be a contrarian against maybe one of the most consensus #1 picks will have you dying on a hill you shouldn’t even be on.

myrtle wrote:
How will she develop? Yet to be seen.

That’s what you’re supposed to predict. That’s what we do here. Color you skeptical on Boston? Any chance you’ll change your mind during the college season? I’m guessing that’ll be inevitable.

myrtle wrote:
A'ja has developed her shot, and increased her moves so she's not so predictable as she was coming out of college.

The comparison should be Boston coming out of college to Wilson coming out of college. I don’t remember your stance on Wilson as a draft prospect. But I do remember there was a surprising number of skeptics. Easier to take the skeptical stance than to predict success.

myrtle wrote:
Boston can clearly improve in a number of ways but I don't think she can transform into a mobile 4.

I really don’t think she needs or wants to change positions. But nobody anticipated Charles moving to the 4, so you never know.

smart. Otherwise in 2 or 3 years, Shades will quote us in this thread to show his superiority...if he's right. Otherwise it will disappear into the annals of rebkells never to surface again. Laughing

If Minnesota gets Boston next year Shades will not wait three years to boast about Boston. Every game she scores double digit points and gets double digit rebounds. He will scream from the mountain tops. BOOYAH!😜

I’d rather cheer for the Lynx to get into the playoffs. That’s the way I’ve always been and always will be.

As far as predicting success for Boston, that’s not a great call. It’s just common sense.

Beloved Shades, You make it sound like I'm dissing her. I think she's a very good player and has had an amazing college career. I just don't think she's a Swoopes or Leslie or Stewie or Maya - ie a generational talent. Is that so terrible? If you prefer, I'll compare her to B. Jones, who was an allstar this year. (and BTW I happen to like EWill better than Pilight for instance). I just don't see the comparison at all with Wilson. So be it.

No one wants you, Boston. The Sky will take you to the promised land. Tell all teams that Chicago is your destination. Sing Frank Sinatra's Chicago song as much as possible to scare away any lusting GMs or coaches.😂

For what? I hope Boston goes to a team that will develop her talent and not park her buttocks at the end of the bench. Chicago will use her. 💪🏿

Count me in on the Boston train, she's gonna be great in this league. I think some have forgotten there were question marks about Aj'a prior to her rookie season. Some thought her ceiling would be an All Star, not a perennial MVP candidate and Olympian!

I'm thinking about how John Elway refused to play for Colts, Eli Manning & the Chargers, and Kobe & the Hornets... Laughing

Has a WNBA draftee ever refused to play for the team for which they were drafted? I would be nervous as hell to have to start my career with a couple of these franchises.

Regarding Boston, I think a few things make her an eventual franchise player. First it’s her athleticism at her size. Second she features a semblance of a face-up game for a degree of balance. Third, she can switch on smaller players, making her defensive upside substantial. Fourth is the footwork. She has extremely light and quick feet for someone who is so physically dominant. I think she has the highest degree of unique traits of any post player the league has seen, because of how unusual it is to possess some of these skills at her size.

And they still won't get it!!! You could put 97 Fever balls in and 3 for the other teams and the Fever will end up in 4th spot!!! They've got the cloud of someone hanging over them!!!

The W should make a new rule. The worst team that 'exceeds' the next worse team by 10 win or losses should automatically get the first pick. To hell with the lottery BS. The other three teams can draw for picks 2 thru 4. They can call it the Indiana rule. If Washington or Chicago get the #1 pick it would be a travesty.
