Game of the Day

Interesting stats:

Ohio State leads the series 29-22, after winning the first 20 games in the series. Since then Purdue has won 22 of 31.

Kristy Curry is 6-3 all-time over Jim Foster.

Last year, Purdue lost twice to Ohio State for the first time since the 1992-93 season. The year after that, Purdue made their first Final Four.

Katie Douglas and Shereka Wright are in the house. Wish I was.

Wow, this has been like two different games. Purdue started out hot and now OSU is on a bit of a run. I hope the boilers can pull together another run!

17-3 run for Ohio State. Pathetic. More than 6 minutes without a score.

Katie Gearlds hasn't taken a shot. There is no way they can win without Gearlds even shooting.

Traore had trouble dribbling, it made me laugh. She looked so akward. I'd rather her hit threes like she just did Laughing

If I am Coach Curry, I don't start the same bunch in the second half. I would start Mioton and Helgeson over the "stars" who are playing like crap.

How are you watching the game? Is it a paid feed?

Yeah. The Boilers had 5 points in a span of 8 minutes. OSU had 5 in a span of 20 seconds. We need a better effort in the 2nd half.

Stat of the half:

Lawless and Gearlds combined for 2-5 shooting. Aya Traore and Sharika Webb are not going to win this game for Purdue.

Damn. This game changed quickly. Traore has been awesome! Did she play like this last year because I dont remember her name? She's very good on both ends!

She didn't play like this last year, but Purdue fans had been waiting on it. She has athleticism to spare and last year had trouble keeping it under control. She only played one year of high school ball, so this is really just her fifth year of organized basketball, including two in JC. Last year, she also had the lingering effects of a knee injury that made her redshirt two years ago -- her first at Purdue.

Danielle Campbell has also been solid today. I watched her a lot during the State Tourney here in Illinois and I knew, when I heard she was going to Purdue, that she would do good in West Lafayette but I didnt expect her to be this good so early...

That was only the third free throw Gearlds has missed all season.

Purdue wins! 61-59!

Boilers haven't beaten a team ranked more than 10 spots higher than them since Penn State in 2000. Of course, there haven't been many teams ranked 10 spots above them since then.

Boilers well on their way back!

Purdue hangs on 61-59. Wow, this must have been a fun game to see in person. For that matter, on TV. It wasn't on here.

What sbj said. We have Comcast cable here: why won't our sports pack give us Comcast Chicago?

Good for the Boilers. Curry = good coach.

WHAT A GAME!!! I was there and it was awesome. Good environment, lots of Purdue fans, lots of Ohio State fans. I think my heart skipped a beat with OSU's last attempt at a three pointer! Anyway, glad the girls pulled it out...great way to start off 2006. GO BOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!

One last thing, good to see former players visiting. against Wisconsin there was Valek, Heikes, and Hicks and today it was Wright and KT! Very Happy

As a side note, this was the first New Year's Day game Purdue has ever played.

Glad the environment was as good in person as it sounded on the radio. Not glad I was sick and had to stay home and let my tickets go to waste Sad

I decided last night to skip the game today and drag my lazy ass to the gym. Then I ran a few errands and came home to read about the great game I missed!

According to the box score, Davenport took a grand total of five shots, what is up with that?

Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton was up with that.

Describe further, please, for those of us who don't live in West Lafayette and don't get Comcast Chicago. Wisdom-Hylton has always looked like an OK player to me, but certainly not like someone capable of stopping Davenport all by herself (which Roehrig and McCarville only barely managed to do, and it took McCarville five tries in two years before she could do it enough to beat the team).
