Assuming Monique Currie enters the draft, who, in your opinion, will be chosen in the first round?
I'll enter mine a little later.

I'm not gonna go assuming anything, but this is what I'd like to have happen:
Sting - Janel McCarville
Fever - Jacqueline Batteast
Mercury - Sandora Irvin
Silver Stars - Kendra Wecker (I would love to see her on the wings with Fardinand!)
Comets - Tan White
Mystics - Monique Currie (I know she won't fall this far though)
Shock - Caity Matter (team most in need of a shooter)
Sun - Sancho Lyttle
Monarchs - Jamie Carey or Anne O'Neal
Liberty - Dionnah Jackson
Lynx - Kristen Haynie
Storm - Cathrine Kraayeveld (kind of a hometown hero)
Sparks - Shyra Ely

You don't think Tanisha Wright will go in the first round?
I agree with your first three picks if Monique doesn't come out. If she does enter the draft, then Monique would probably go #1.

No way is Caitty Matter a first round pick. Haynie and Carey are not going to be first round picks either.
The wildcard is Currie. If she enters the draft, Charlotte will take her. Indiana likes Tan White. Houston likes Sancho Lyttle, but would take Tan White if the Fever do not take her. There are too many variables at this point.

Agreed.
I also think Anne O'Neil, much as I like her game, is a second-rounder.

Again, I don't think any of this will happen, just what I want to see happen. I think Haynie would be a perfect fit for the Lynx and could develop into starting material in 3-4 seasons.
I don't know what happened with Tanisha Wright, though. I swear she was on there.

Cathrine Kraayeveld to the storm could be a good sleeper. She's had knee injuries and had had bad luck but has a similar game to lj and ohlde. She is big and runs the floor can shoot and she can handle. She has questions but definitley a good project if the storm take her. She could be a good back up for the storm and learning with Ann and Lauren can only help.

After seeing McCarville stopped up last night, I think she has a lot of work to do before she will be able to contribute the way a Number One pick is expected to bring it. She could barely get up and down the floor after being leaned on by Big Kelli last night.
I did like that spin move to the basket near the end of the game...shows she has some unique gifts to offer. Knowing she will be learing a new position is also something to consider.
Mo Currie is holding every scenario up.

Just because Giuliana Mendiola did not get drafted does not mean Donovan wouldn't necessarily take the hometown girl. She would if the girl were talented enough. I think Kraayeveld could fit for the storm. My observations are there aren't very many good post players this year and the draft isn't that deep. Cathrine has height (6-4) and versatility working for her. With KV going to the Mercury. Cathrine could be a possible back up not only at the 5 but at the 4 as well. I would also remind you just because Mendiola did not get drafted does not mean she didn't have the option of playing for Seattle. Ann offered her a contract for training camp and she went to Sacramento. Andrea Lalum a UW alum got a tryout even though she didn't make it still tried making the team. You have got to put personal feelings aside and draft the best player available and what is needed the most for your team.

Hmm, the statement that AD offered Mendiola a training camp contract comes as a surprise to me.... since Guiliana HERSELF told me the only teams that expressed any interest in her were LA and Sac, and she went with Sac because she felt she had a better chance of making the roster.

it's about time this board got around to some nasty Mendiola debates. It is, after all, my favorite subject -- women's basketball just isn't as fun as it was a year ago, when Giuli and Loney were fighting it out, when the trial of the century was on Geraldo every morning.
(And Alicia, is that you?)

I'm from Seattle and I specifically remember reading Ann Donovan saying that Mendiola turned the Storm down.

Kraayeveld? The Storm don't really need her. She can shoot but she's slow and wouldn't help the inside game much.
If Chelsea Newton is still available, Anne should take her. She won't but she should! |

Probably this weekend. I've been recovering from a spate of assignments. |

I love Ohlde and Hayden. THe Twin towers arent going anywhere. They wold have to trade Tamika, since that is the position Shaq plays. |
Which position is that? If the position is center, that is the position Hayden plays.
The position Shaq will have to play in the W is power forward, as she won't be able to do what Tamika Williams does (an undersized five with limited offensive skills who is excellent at offensive rebounding and putback baskets, plus good defense). If that position is power forward, that is the same one Ohlde plays.
Just not sure what you meant by your comments...
