How did Diana Taurasi win it those two years? Wasn't Maria Conlon the PG.

Hence the reason why I think the award is stupid, to be quite honest. There isn't a preseason watch list for it, and the criteria are so up in the air that players who shouldn't be on the finalist lists always make it there--and even win it. As I've said before, it's more of a Heisman type award than it is an actual PG award. You're likely to see more Tim Tebows win it than Sam Bradfords.
In all the years this thing has been awarded, only two PGs have won it, and it should come as a surprise to no one that those two PGs happen to be the only PGs on the list with WNBA championships.

Those two also happen to be the ones that have been around the longest. Taurasi didn't even make it to the playoffs until her fourth year (Harding and Latta will be fourth-year pros this season), and Bird won her first and only thus far in her second year (Toliver and Montgomery will be sophomores this season).
ETA: I realize one of the two you were referring to is Johnson, not Taurasi. Still, this was TJ's fifth year as a pro.

Sue Bird won a title her 3rd year in the league. Her first year 2002 LA won, and her second year 2003 Detroit won.

Not really. Yes, sometimes Maria brought the ball up the court..but Dee was the pg..if Uconn really had one.
