So have these been the best tournaments for both men and women ever? (Setting aside UConn's four blowouts if you must.) If I'm doing the math correctly, there have been 57 men's tournament games, and 34 of them were close, with 20 upsets. That's pretty fuckin' amazing. And given that the women's tournament tends to be closer to chalk, 12/56 ain't bad either.

That's the problem with comparing the tournaments this year. Sure, the numbers are heavily tilted in the men's favor... but this is the most exciting men's tournament I've ever seen.

1998, when we lost a #1 seed in each of the first three rounds and the four E8 games were decided by a combined 26 points, was probably better. There were more close games (22) than blowouts (16). Of course the F4 that year turned out be a dud, none of the games were close and Tennessee was crowned as the G.O.A.T. after completing their 39-0 season.
