I was reading an article about core fandoms. A core fan of a sport - whether of baseball, boxing, MMA, whatever - is a fan who places the particular sport that he or she follows above all others in priority.

This fan might watch multiple sports, but if it came down to crunch time - if the fan could only follow one sport and no others - the sport that the core fan would choose is his or her "core sport".

How many WNBA fans are "core" fans?

I said WNBA but to be honest, I'm assuming we're talking just a regular season, run of the mill game. The ultimate for me is The Women's Final Four with TN in it but other than that one event, I'll take a WNBA game over pretty much anything else. Well, aside from Olympic women's basketball.

I have season tickets for both WNBA and Womens college, but the W had beer, and better faster players Wink

WNBA for sure. I only got ASU tickets to fill the void when the season ends, plus I keep contact with Mercury fans in the winter.

I'm always in a crappy mood when the Merc don't win, can't say I feel that way about any other team.

Asking the question here is going to give you a skewed result.

Hmm...result might also be influenced by the term "attend." Example: I voted for WNBA. If I could only *follow* one, it would be WCBB, but for reasons of geography I mostly follow that by television and 'net.

A few years ago I probably would have said women's college bball. Right now it was a real toss up, but in my mind you couldn't have the WNBA without the college game so I figured saying the W was almost equal to saying WCBB. Still though even after castin my vote, I sure miss going to HEcEd for Huskies women's games win or lose. I have enjoyed UoL women's games incredibly as well the last three years, but I hate Freedom Hall. I loved HecEd. This is really tough, but I guess as I age I like seeing the graduates of WCBB growing in even greater strides in the W.

The Liberty. But giving up St. John's would break my heart.

pilight's right, though. You should post this poll in the WCBB forum and see what comes up. There are a lot of people who follow the college game exclusively.

Lol....someone said the NCAA fills the void between WNBA seasons...I voted NCAA and feel the WNBA fills the void between NCAA seasons. Laughing

I just prefer seeing the women transition from high school to college as both ballers and people. I think my opinion may be different if I didn't live adjacent to ASU and one of the most accessible and charismatic coaches in women's basketball, CTT.

However, I am grateful and lucky to live so close to such a great WNBA team, as well. And AMD is certainly every bit as accessible and charismatic as anyone else and is a freakin HOF'er and legend.

Just sayin I like to see the young women develop their game and lives from teenagers to young adulthood......
