I am amazed Boyle has not had more commitments like this. She was BY FAR the most popular assistant coach while at Duke and great on the recruiting trail. She just needs to keep getting more players in the top 30.

She got Stallworth already for 2009 so this is a good trend.....got a couple talented guards for 2008....so far so good for 2009. Boyle lost Dixon and Speed to Rutgers this year......but glad to have players see the light when it comes to Berkeley and Boyle.

Very Happy

PostPosted: 03/30/08 1:45 am    ::: OT from Ratto column today Reply Reply with quote

didn't want to begin another thread, but thought this worth sharing. Ray Ratto's column in the SF Chronicle focusing on Cal's mbb coaching vacancy, and other Bay Area goings on in men's bball....but he did write this comment at the end of the article which made me laugh:

"But there is good news for those of you who prefer winning to wacky - at least the women have their gigs down. The two best coaches in the area and most stable programs are now supervised by (or continue to be, depending on your view) Boyle and Tara VanDerveer, who are one year of earnest head-butting away from giving us that Geno Auriemma-Pat Summitt blood feud we all crave. At which point the USF mess won't seem nearly so fascinating at all."

That could draw some attention to the Pac-10 all right.

Personally, I hope it becomes a rivalry but one based on respect for each team's ability. I've seen the Tn and UConn boards going after each other and it isn't pretty. It's possible to have the whole "honorable enemy" thing going on... And we're going to have to win some games in order to make it a real rivalry.

I don't see it ever resembling Geno/Pat......no way. Joanne and Tara might be end up being big rivals, but it would never devolve like the Geno/Pat relationship has....

Rivalries can be a good thing, but good will is also important. Very Happy

You can be rivals and be classy about it.
