I know everyone has seen the commercial where the SportsCenter guy keeps making all the bad puns while sitting talking to Coach Summit. I don't know why but I chuckle every time I see it.

"Yeah, I guess you could say I got this coaching thing down pat."

I give Coach two thumbs up for delivery and the staredown for emphasis. Nice work! Laughing

I've seen it so many times but I've never known what they said, because most commercials aren't captioned Rolling Eyes

Here you go. I don’t know the men’s names so I’ll refer to them by position. #1 and #3

#3 Pat, how many years have you been coaching now?

Pat - 33.

#2 - No kidding.

Pat - All at Tennessee.

#3 - Wow!

#1 - I guess you could say you started of as a volunteer. Huh!

#3 - 7 National Championships. I mean that is unbelievable.

Pat - Well, I’ve been very lucky.

#1 - I mean you’ve reached the summit of the coaching profession. Summit!

Pat - Yeah, I guess you could say I got this coaching thing down pat.

#1 - Laughs, then stops when he sees the look on their faces. Says, sorry.

Haven't seen the spot yet, but didn't Pat coach somewhere else before coming to Univ. of Tenn?

She was still playing with the national team when she got the Tennessee job. She graduated UT-Martin in 1974, then coached the Lady Vols in 1974-75 while attending grad school in Knoxville.

She actually started as the graduate assistant coach that year. The head coach resigned part way into the season and Pat took over, if my memory serves.

She was originally hired to be a grad assistant, but head coach Margaret Hutson decided before the season to take a sabbatical so Pat Head was offered the head coaching job instead. I wonder if Hutson will get her job back when her sabbatical is over...
