Sure, it's about political ambition. Congress didn't get anything done about the war in Iraq, illegal wiretapping and torture this year, but they cracked down hard on baseball players using steroids. As a state senator he's trying to work his way up to that level.

I think the consensus on the RU board is that the explanation is idiocy. There are a lot of issues in the state legislature that are more important to Rutgers than this. Say, you know, funding for the state university.

Don't forget PA senator Arlen Spector using senate resources (or wanting to anyway) to investigate the Patriots and Spygate.
