Buffs coming of a win - a week ago - and K-State coming off a loss on Wednesday night.
The game in Manhattan was fairly competitive for most game, but had two problems they couldn't resolve down the stretch. They were holding a lead when the gave up three treys that gave K-State the lead. Then with the game winding down they couldn't stop Lehning's dribble penetration.
In the conference portion of the season the Buffs have really struggled with teams that have good three-point shooters. It will be interesting to see if they have figured how to defend the trey and not give up dribble penetration.

Great game by the Buffs! They played the entire game, didn't fade under KSU's pressure at the end. Instead they applied some pressure to KSU, causing a couple of travels by Lehning in the last few minutes and had enough pressure on Dietz that her attempt at a 3 pointer was off the mark when CU was up by 4 with under a minute to go.
Great to see the improvement in this team from the early Big 12 home games when they had leads but lost them playing tentative down the stretch. This team played tough, both physically and mentally tonight.

This win reminded me of the one the Buffs got earlier in the season over Wyo here in Boulder. Both opponents liked to drive and then kick the ball out for an open look from the perimeter. They both have a number of players that can drive and and who can hit the trey.
Tonight the Buffs defense against KSU wasn't perfect, but it was much better than in the first meeting and it was good enough to produce a few stops and TOs in the final four minutes.
KSU's super point guard Shalee Lehning was credited with more turnovers than assists (7-5) and was not able to consistently break down the Buffs' defense.
Offensively it was the trey that was the Buffs most consistent weapon. Like many of CU's opponents this season KSU packed it in and dared the Buffs to score from the perimeter. Tonight CU lit it up going 12-25 from behind the line. Bianca Smith led the charge going 5-9, Brittany Spears was 4-8. Both did the bulk of their damage in the first half, with Spears going for 17 points. Although neither would score much in the second half both hit key treys down the stretch. At one key juncture Spears, who had made a mistake on the other end of the floor that allowed a basket hit Smith with a wicked cross court pass where she was wide open for a trey.
Of course what sticks out in terms of sequences was the one where CU's Jackie McFarland grabbed a rebound off of a missed Whitney Houston trey, scored on the on the follow and was fouled. She made the free throw and gave the Buffs what was effectively the win with a four point lead. CU had looked totally out of sync as the shot clock was winding down and Houston launched the trey out of desperation.
Speaking of Jackie, she was almost invisible in the first half, but finished with 19 points. She simply knows how to get to the basket or the line even when the going is tough.
This was CU's third win against a ranked team this season.
