Since the coaching shakeup in Kentucky (both UK and UofL named new coaches recently), Louisville has been getting the lion's share of recruits. UK finally got on the map yesterday. 2010 prospect Samantha Drake from Nelson County has verballed to the University of Kentucky. She figures to be a strong contender for Miss Basketball by the time her senior year rolls around (only seniors are eligible). As a freshman, she averaged 22 points/11 rebounds per game. Samantha is newly-named head coach Matthew Mitchell's first commitment.
On a side note, Dee Dee Jernigan visited UK recently. She has left Rutger's and is trying to figure out where she will play now. She is also looking at Xavier.

Samantha Drake, a sophomore-to-be from Nelson County, became the first player to commit to the Kentucky women's basketball team in the Matthew Mitchell coaching era yesterday.
Drake, a 6-foot-21/2 center-forward, averaged 22.5 points and 11 rebounds as a freshman.
When asked why she made her college choice while still having three high school seasons to play, Drake noted the desire to set recruiting aside.
"I could concentrate on basketball and my work in school," she said. "I can lay low for a while."
Drake became familiar with UK this summer when her team participated in a camp. She had been considering Tennessee, Louisville and Purdue.
