Seventeen College Standouts, 20 Prep Sensations Comprise USA Basketball’s U19 Women’s Junior National Team Trials Invitees
– Twenty-Six Of The 37 Invited To Colorado Springs Return With USA Basketball Experience –
Colorado Springs, Colorado - Including Pacific-10 Conference Freshman of the Year Jayne Appel (Stanford/Pleasant Hill, Calif.) and two-time Naismith High School Player of the Year Maya Moore (Collins Hill H.S./Lawrenceville, Ga.), 10 gold medal winners from the 2006 USA U18 National Team return among 37 of the nation's top 19-and-unders (born on or after Jan. 1, 1988) to compete for a spot on the 2007 USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team at the 2007 USA Basketball Junior National Teams Trials, which will be held May 17-20 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The invitations were issued by the USA Basketball Women's Collegiate Committee, which is chaired by Sue Donohoe, the NCAA's vice president of Division I women's basketball.
USA Basketball will conduct the 2007 Women's Junior National and National Team Trials in order to select finalists for three USA Basketball squads–the U19 World Championship Team, U21 World Championship Team and Pan American Games Team. Trials for all three teams will take place at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
