Great news......I'm soooo happy and proud at Joanne for sticking with her team and her program!!!!

She's having a teleconference now with press....big sigh of relief here and great excitement for the future.

(edit) Here's a review of what she told the press:

What an amazing woman....

Hey, what's to choose? Berkley versus Durham? Joey A?

Oh my God!! Yay!

So happy. That made my week.

Quote:
"Through the process I have been flattered and humbled that Duke even considered me," Boyle said in a conference call. "I told the kids the reason people are calling me is because of our success and what we're building at Cal. ... That was ultimately why I couldn't leave. We've built something pretty special in two years and I don't know where this journey is going to go."

Here's a nice profile of Joanne written a while back....gives a bit of perspective about her experiences:

Great news for Cal.

Who's Duke's backup choice?

I'd give Marianne Stanley a call...

Not a bad idea, but they might have to fight Kia Vaughn to get her.

Sad for the Duke program/fans and happy for Cal. I think more than a few expect to see Cal become a program that could be very tough in a few years.

And you wouldn't last long as an AD.

Good for her! I'm really glad I didn't make the post I was thinking of posting this morning. I was going to say: I'll eat my shoe if Boyle doesn't announce her move to Duke within the next few days...

So you could say I'm a bit surprised... Haha, but I'm thrilled for Cal!

Go Pac-10!

Really though. She's got Blue Devil blood AND her mom lives in NC. I truly am surprised. Kudos to the Cal AD for keeping her!

Here's another article which provides some insight into why she made the decision she did:

Another link for those like me that can't get enough....

Quote:
Cal guard Alexis Gray-Lawson said she admires her coach more than ever after her decision.

"Anybody in their right mind, in the basketball world is probably thinking 'What is she doing? She can go to a program that's already there, making the tournament every year, she could win a national championship,' " Gray-Lawson said. "But for her to stay, to say that she wants us to develop as people on and off the court, shows how special she really is and how she feels about this program and today I want to be more like her."

Very cool quote from Gray-Lawson.
