AAARRGGHHH!! It really is happening. I'm scared for LSU...

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/news/story?id=2829217

Quote:
Bertman told Louisiana Gannett News that Chancellor, who led the Houston Comets to four championships before resigning three months ago, will come to Baton Rouge, perhaps early next week, to interview for the post abruptly vacated by Pokey Chatman before this year's NCAA Tournament.

"We want Van to meet the players, the academic advisers, the chancellor, the strength coach, everybody," Bertman said.

Not sure what to make of this decision, really.

Well I think he should stay commentating.

He's 63 and maybe the thought is to have an interim coach for a year or two since so many players will leave as seniors after next season.

I truly think Van at this stage should enjoy life and family and put them first. He may be a person that never wants to retire however.

Maybe his family is encouraging him to keep working...maybe they don't want to be coached at home...let him drive someone else crazy!

Or maybe some people just don't know how or aren't ready to stay at home. These days, 63 is not that old. Plenty of people work way past that age. It depends upon your health and your attitude toward work.

Me, I can't wait to retire from my job when I reach 62. But my grandfather, may he rest in peace, was on his third profession, substitute teaching, when he passed just shy of his 91st birthday. He worked until 6 days before his death and I think that one of the things that killed him was the realization that he would not be able to return to work.

The issue is whether LSU wants Van. I think Comet fans will have more to say about whether he would be good for them.

LSU needs to keep pushing after Stringer. Van stay away from LSU.

Laughing

He'd probably extend Starkey's tenure and you wouldn't have to worry about him messing around with the players except with his jokes........

Funny, I feel exactly the opposite way about this.

I'm pretty sure that CVS will be made to feel loved by Rutgers, and there are other, non-basketball reasons why she's not that likely to leave.

Chancellor is no slouch as a coach.

When Frank Lloyd Wright was 63, he left his architectural firm and totally reinvented himself. Some of his greatest work-- work that we now think of as quintessential FLW-- was done in the 20 or so years after he turned 63.
