Pilight, I might have missed an earlier post, but what are these rankings based on?

A computer program I've developed.

If Katie G didn't have such a bad game, we might have won.

And if UConn didn't turn the ball over so much, UConn could have won by a lot more.

You can make those arguments both ways.

True, but I guess you didn't read what I put.

The key word you overlooked was "Might" won.
Meaning, that we probably would have at least improved our chances.

I did read it. That is why I responded with "could have." Meaning, UConn probably would have won by more.

But I don't agree with putting them in front of UConn, considering that UConn has already beaten us. How do you justify that?

It's not a zero-sum game. Just because one team beats another doesn't neccesarily mean they should be rated more highly.

I agree, but what makes you think that Purdue is actually better than UConn? Just curious.

They did pretty much hold a double digit lead over us for a long time.

It's a computer program. The RPI, another computer ranking, has the same thing. In fact in the RPI Purdue is still No. 1. Computers adjust themselves up and down the ranking as the year plays out.

Just like Duke "could have" won the 1999 national championship Smile

Sorry, I had to throw that in there.

No you didn't. Everyone who followed women's basketball that season realized that Duke was overmatched. Purdue knocked off Tennessee earlier that season and was among the Top 5 teams in the country all season. We weren't supposed to defeat a Tennessee team led by Holdsclaw and Catchings.

Over matched or not, they still had a chance to compete, and got whooped Smile Smile

This means that Stanford, to pick a school totally at random, has to wait until the week of Christmas to become eligible, as the Cardinal (4-3) is idle until December 16.

No Stanford in the poll? That sucks, but they have lost three games (and I'm probably the biggest Stanford fan in this board). So it's justified. Wait till the Pac-10 play starts.[/quote]

Non sequitor?

Come on now Keegan....Khalid El Amin was on both teams. Only now he's named Kaili McLaren and playing on the women's team for UConn!
