That was a test. Good job for solving it.
Actually I missed one other significant piece of information. Texas is playing West Virginia this evening in the finals of the Gulf Coast Showcase. I was going off the teams' schedules and this game had not yet been added. Both oversights have been corrected.

Three teams fell today. In addition to Charleston there were two matchups of unbeatens. Miami beat Quinnipiac in OT and Texas held off a late surge to upend West Virginia.

Texas Tech beat Stephen F Austin 78-68 to drop the unbeatens to 21. There are several games over the next 2 days that should drop the number below 20.

Three teams lost today.
Georgia Tech beat Mississippi State 78-75 in a battle of unbeatens.
Vanderbilt beat Miami 88-70. Miami had been undefeated but Vanderbilt was favored.
The big upset was Georgetown beating Richmond, a major blow to the Atlantic 10's chances of getting an at-large bid.

3 more teams suffered their first loss today.
Texas lost to Notre Dame
Kentucky lost to North Carolina
Alabama lost to California
Overall there were 5 teams that lost their first game in the ACC/SEC challenge, and LSU avoided their first loss to Stanford by overcoming a 5 point deficit in the last 30 seconds.

It took just 1 week to halve the number of undefeated teams from 26 to 13. Today two more teams fell. Iowa lost to unbeaten Tennessee 78-68. Albany lost to a weak Siena team that had previously only beaten Massachusetts and Central Connecticut.
Tomorrow there are a few more teams that could lose their first game. TCU plays South Carolina and Minnesota travels to Nebraska among 8 teams trying to stay unbeaten.

Down to 10 with three losses yesterday.
Minnesota lost at Nebraska, 84-65 in their first Big 10 conference game. Their non-conference was very weak.
TCU lost to South Carolina 85-62. The Horned Frogs had beaten North Carolina St and Notre Dame but South Carolina is playing the best basketball of anyone right now.
Western Kentucky lost to Wichita St 64-59

Michigan St fell to Alabama 82-67 to leave only 8 unbeaten teams.
Michigan St, Alabama and California each have only 1 loss. Cal beat the Crimson Tide but lost to the Spartans.

And then there were 7. Portland falls in overtime to Oregon St 76-72. Portland is still the favorite to win the WCC but the question is whether their body of work will be good enough to make the NCAA tournament if they don't win the WCC automatic bid. They were 53 in the NET and 48 in Massey prior to the loss and their only top 50 win is over Princeton. It looks like they will come up short but that is once again the hurdle that a non-Power 4 conference team faces.

The first Sunday in January saw 2 of the 7 remaining unbeatens fall, with Maryland still having to play at Iowa later.
Buffalo lost to Kent St 82-73 in a game where they never led (they tied the game once at 22.) Buffalo had stayed unbeaten by playing the weakest non-conference schedule in the nation. The Bulls are probably a top 5 team in the MAC but now that they are playing better competition, we should get a better read on the team.
Tennessee lost its first major test of the season (they had beaten Florida St and Iowa) 87-86 to Oklahoma. The Vols trailed by 10 with 2 minutes to go but Jewel Spear made 3 3s in an 11-2 run. When the Vols forced a shot clock violation they had a chance to win but Sara Puckett missed a 3 pointer in the final seconds.

Maryland put up a valiant effort but lost 79-74 to USC on Wednesday. Yesterday Georgia Tech fell to Virginia Tech 105-94 in double Overtime. That leaves only 3 teams left with an unblemished record.
UCLA (16-0) has the signature win over South Carolina and has beaten 6 other teams projected to make the NCAA, but only Michigan is ranked #25. Their only single digit win was over Louisville in their opener. The big tests are still more than 2 weeks away, but the last 5 weeks of the season are brutal. The Bruins go to Maryland (January 26), then play Minnesota (2/2) and Ohio St (2/5) and travel to Oregon (2/9) and USC (2/13). That is 5 games against Tournament teams including 3 top 10 teams. They also have a rematch with USC (3/1) to end the regular season.
LSU (18-0) survived a major scare last night beating Tennessee 89-87. They also trailed most of the game against both Washington and Stanford before winning in the final minute vs the Huskies and in OT vs the Cardinal. The Tigers only had 1 top 25 win (NC St) before last night. If they can get past Vanderbilt on Monday their real test will come at South Carolina (1/23)
Ohio St (15-0) has played the easiest schedule of unbeatens. They played only 1 top 50 team (Stanford) non-conference, and its 4 conference wins are over teams with a combined 3-16 record. The cupcakes continue for another 10 days but then the Buckeyes will be challenged mightily. Their last 11 games include 4 top 10 matchups (Maryland (1/23), @UCLA (2/5), @USC (2/8) and @Maryland (3/2)) and a trip to Lincoln (1/26). Jaloni Cambridge hasn't seen that level of play yet.

Penn St 62 Ohio St 59.
Only 2 unbeatens left as the Buckeyes fell to the Nittany Lions on the road. Ohio St was without superfrosh Jaloni Cambridge. Ohio St ran out to a 14-2 lead but Penn St came back to lead 30-27 at the half. The game was tied at 56 with 6:45 to go but the Buckeyes could only manage 3 FT the rest of the way.
UCLA's schedule is difficult the rest of the way, playing 10 of their last 12 against teams that have been ranked this season. They play Baylor in New Jersey Monday. The toughest matchups are next Sunday at Maryland and a home-and home with USC.
LSU's schedule isn't much easier with their toughest game being at South Carolina on Thursday. They also have Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama remaining.

Any idea the earliest point of the year (modern era) that every team has at least one loss?

In the 2021-22 season Colorado was the last unbeaten, and they lost to Stanford on January 14. There may have been earlier dates going back further.

Interesting. Later than I would have thought. Thanks for the info.
