There are now only 3 teams that have yet to win a game this season as of January 4. (in BOLD)
AMERICAN UNIVERSITY (0-7)
Closest Loss: Fairleigh Dickinson 59-62
Best Chance for first win: 1/2/25 Navy
American is not the worst team in the nation but they may have the best chance of going winless. They have lost 4 of their 7 games by single digits.
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST (0-9)
Closest Loss: Florida Gulf Coast 56-66
Best Chance for first win: 12/11 Cal St Northridge
Cal Baptist was in the NCAA tournament last season but thanks to a very difficult schedule they have yet to win. Once the Lancers get to their conference schedule they will be fine and could still return to the Dance if they can upset Grand Canyon.
BEAT ST. MARY'S 71-68
CAL ST FULLERTON (0-8)
Closest Losses: Pepperdine 57-59, Loyola Marymount 61-64 OT, Washington 58-62
Best Chance for first win: 12/7 UC Riverside
Cal St Fullerton is another team that hasn't won yet but they will soon. Even if they can't beat UC Riverside they have two games against non-D1 teams this month.
Beat Chapman 80-39
CHICAGO ST (0-10)
Closest Loss: Northern Illinois 68-77
Best Chance for first win: 1/2/25 Wagner
Chicago St plays one of the tougher non-conference schedules but this year they have joined the worst conference in D-1, the Northeast. Accordingly the Cougars will get a few wins in the new year.
Beat Long Island 64-59 OT
FLORIDA A&M (0-8)
Closest Loss: Jacksonville 50-58
Best Chance for first win: 12/29 Thomas (Ga)
Florida A&M has only played one game against a team outside the top 200 so far, but they don't have any games left against top 200 teams.
BEAT NORTH FLORIDA 85-57
LE MOYNE (0-8)
Closest Loss: Boston U. 55-60
Best Chance for first win: 12/7 Mass Lowell
Le Moyne is another Northeast team, home to 8 of the bottom 22 teams in the country. But Le Moyne could get a win before conference season starts thanks to a game tonight against another winless team, Mass Lowell.
MASS LOWELL
Closest Loss: San Jose St. 67-68
Best Chance for first win: 12/7 Le Moyne
Mass Lowell has a few chances for a win even if they can't beat Le Moyne. Their next game is against Iona and they also have 2 games against NJIT in conference.
BEAT LE MOYNE 69-56
MOUNT ST MARY'S (0-6)
Closest Loss; Fairleigh Dickinson 59-63
Best Chance for first win: 12/7 Loyola (Md)
Mount St Mary's has not played a team outside the top 250, but going forward they have 15 games, starting tonight with Loyola (Md)
BEAT LOYOLA (MD) 65-49
NEW ORLEANS (0-7)
Closest Loss: Tarleton St 48-57
Best Chance for first win: 1/4 Texas Rio Grande Valley
New Orleans only won 1 of their first 9 games last season but wound up winning 11 games, The Privateers may not be as good this season but they should win a few games eventually.
NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL (0-10)
Closest Loss: South Dakota 54-61
Best Chance for first win: 12/11 Presbyterian
North Carolina Central still has a game left with Tennessee but that is the last of their sure losses. Presbyterian is a battle of winless teams.
Beat Winthrop 76-71
PRESBYTERIAN (0-8)
Closest Loss; North Carolina Wilmington 74-78 OT
Best Chance for first win: 12/11 North Carolina Central
Even if Presbyterian can't beat NC Central on Wednesday, the Blue Hose have a game against Non-D1 Newberry on New Year's Eve.
Beat North Carolina Central 67-63

Four teams got their first win today. Mass Lowell beat Le Moyne 69-56 in a battle of winless teams. Mass Lowell was led by reserve Alex Gitchenko who scored a career high 19 points and added 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Gitchenko is a senior from Israel who played her first two tears at Georgia St.
Mt. St. Mary's beat Loyola Maryland 65-48. Anna Lemaster led the Mountaineers with 15 points.
California Baptist beat St Mary's 71-68 to notch their first win. Senior Anaiyah Tu'ua scored 20 points with 8 assists to lead the Lancers.
Florida A&M blitzed North Florida, running out to a 44-11 lead and coasted to a 85-57 win. Senior Cheyenne McEvans led the Rattlers with 17 points and 6 steals. Freshman Eve Alexander had only 13 points in her career until she scored 12 points today.
This leaves only 7 teams without a win.

Scheduling allowed the winless to drop to 5
Cal St Fullerton beat Chapman 80-39.
The two schools are less than 10 miles apart down the 57 freeway. Chapman is a Division III school who is rated outside of the top 1000 schools by Massey.

North Carolina Central beat Winthrop for its first win of the season. Freshman guard Shakiria Foster led the Eagles with a career high 21 points. Freshman Dianna Blake pulled down 13 rebounds so these two could lead the Eagles to more success going forward.

Chicago St has struggled all year losing all but 1 game (a 2 point overtime loss to crosstown rival Loyola) by at least 9 points. They lost their first 12 games by an average of 38 points per game. But as the calendar turned to 2025 the Cougars fate changed overnight. No longer were they playing the Big 12 or the SEC; they started playing in the Northeast Conference. Blue skies ahead.
Today Chicago St secured a 64-59 OT win over Long Island.
Senior Evangelina Parrish is in her second season at Chicago St, having played 2 years at Schoolcraft JC in Michigan. Schoolcraft was a strong team, going 38-11 in her two years. But things changed for her when she went to Chicago St. Up until today her record was 1-41 with the lone win coming against Kuyper College (NCCAA). And even though Parrish averages only 6 pts, she scored 26 in the win over Kuyper. Today she stepped up again scoring a career high 14 points (against a D-1 team). Chicago St trailed 54-45 with just over 5 minutes to go but Parrish hit a jumper to start the comeback. She also hit another bucket in the 11-2 run that sent the game to OT.
Freshman Aiyanna Culver scored 15 (as did Josie Hill) to lead the Cougars. Culver also scored 4 in the 11-2 run and added 3 in the OT to secure the win. While this is the Cougars first win of the season it will not be their last.
There are only 3 winless teams left. One of them is Le Moyne, also in the Northeast, along with New Orleans and American.

Just to note here, Cal: I appreciate these updates. These kids probably play their hearts out, in programs where there's probably not a ton of support, and deserve what few kudos they may get.
I recently saw a game (dontaskmeitwasnotpretty) but I was dismayed by how few people were in attendance.

I just watched one of those on TV (Pepperdine vs. San Diego) with only a handful in attendance. I watched because my former doctor's daughter, Maggie Vick, is now the starting center for Pepperdine. Maggie had originally signed with Iowa State, where she sat on the bench for 2 years, then hit the portal with that huge group that included their PG a couple of years ago. She looked slow and out of shape last year, but this year she looks good, if not like a P5 center. Pepperdine was winless in conference play last year, but they whomped up on San Diego the other night. I forget the score now, but it was a sound drubbing. The girls had to feel pretty good, even though there was practically nobody in the gym.

Cal St Bakersfield beat Cal St Northridge 62-56 for their first win of the season. The Roadrunners were led by Caitie Gingras, a redshirt freshman from Canada. Bakersfield was trailing 48-38 with under 8 minutes left but then Gingras took over. She hit 3 3-pointers to cut the lead to 1 at 51-50, then assisted on a basket that CSB the lead. She also made 3 FT down the stretch and had a steal in the final 15 seconds to seal the win.
That leaves only 3 winless teams, New Orleans, American and Le Moyne.
