Only if they also cut several of the players on the expensive end of rookie-scale deals (Burton, Soares, Lopez Senechal, Siegrist).

Well, Dallas just cut someone cheap: Ashley Owusu. I think it's nice that they are cutting these players so early so they could get picked up by another team.

She hasn’t been able to participate in training camp. She’s not making any roster.

So here is the present Wings roster:

1: Veronica Burton / Sevgi Uzun
2: Arike Ogunbowale / Jacy Sheldon
3: Satou Sabally / Jaelyn Brown / Lou Lopez Senechal
4: Natasha Howard / Maddy Siegrest
5: Teaira McCowan / Kalani Brown / Stephanie Soares

So the Wings are down to 12, but this still doesn't fit under the salary cap, so there is one more player that must be released.

Given that Sabally will miss half the season (I'm counting the playoffs), both Brown and Senechal should make the team.

Has Soares shown enough? Has she had a chance to?

I liked what I saw of Uzun, and we already traded Dangerfield for a sandwich (oops, I meant a 3rd round pick), so I think she may stick. Do we keep her and Burton and wait for Paige to relieve our PG issue next season? (And is Paige a PG or a 2?) Now that all the easy decisions have been made, who is the last cut? Or can we trade another team some sort of asset? Didn't we pay a lot for Soares (2024 2nd round pick + 2025 1st round pick)? That's pretty bad if she get cut so soon. And the Wings also have Kuier sitting out this year.

Thoughts? Cut one of the PG's and keep Soares?

Not sure I see Dallas or Chicago being lottery teams this season so probably best not to hope for Paige to be available to draft next year.

My guess is Uzun's gone and they think Sheldon can be more of a 1 than you have her listed as. Then halfway through the season they probably sign Odyssey Sims once Trammell gets tired of her existing lead guard options.

Lopez Senechal appears to still be injured as she didn't play in the first preseason game. She is an injured unknown so very cuttable but since they need wings Soares would be better unless Lopez Senechal has an undetermined return date. They already have two huge centers so Soares is not needed unless one of them got hurt. Ideally they also cut Lopez Senechal and pick up a wing off waivers. Like Maya Caldwell, should Indiana cut her.

As usual, Richyyy hits the nail on the head.

Veronica Burton would be a nice WNBA PG if she could shoot at all. She can't.

That means defenses can focus on other players, making it more difficult to score.

Or perhaps Jacy Sheldon is better than most of us think.

Glad i was not the one to say it Laughing Laughing 2 years of a player who has played not 1 minute but still deserving a lock on a roster is insane Laughing Laughing . Me hoping she makes me eat those words but just watching her practice im still not convinced. Uzun OTOH is a gamer !!

They would be stupid to cut Uzun IMO. So with the swings, prolly a 70% chance they do cut her. She ran the point and checked CC in the 4th much better than anyone else. Plus Wings insta clips show great chemistry between Uzun and Arike.
